Healthway Scuba Gold Rebuild

Wed Oct 01, 2014 8:07 pm

I am rebuilding a Healthway Scuba Gold. I have read many of the posts. The question I have is "can I replace the exhaust valve in the can with a normal duckbill valve.? I thought I read somewhere that the original exhaust vavle in the can leaks.

I don't see a way short of doing major damage to the cans. I have not had any issues with my GL, you do need to make sure the sealing surface is free of damage like loose chrome or dings and the spokes are not bent. I will tell you that there is a very small sweet spot when tuning the reg. It works ok if you are close but when just right, it breaths very well. By small, I mean just a few degrees of rotation of the adjustment screw seems to be enough to go past it.

What Herman said about tuning is very true. I really like my Gold Label. And properly adjusted, it works very well. I've also never had an issue with the exhaust mushroom. The Deluxe had a potential problem, but the Gold label has that fixed. The only thing that held the Gold Label down IMHO was the OEM hose and mouth piece. I use mine for show only. I use US Diver hoses with a curved mouth piece with mine and that works great. Enjoy the reg! :D

The diaphragm could interfere with the exhaust mushroom and create problems, if I remember correctly....
