My Visit to The Cousteau Gallary...

Fri Mar 24, 2006 9:10 am

Well, I visited the Cousteau Society in Virginia on Tuesday. It was a great opportunity to photograph many interesting items. I was given complete access to the gallery for several hours on a day when it was closed to the public. I will be posting photos on Monday so stay tuned. I also visited with their Historian and the Vice President of the Cousteau Society. The items on display in Virginia are just the tip of the iceberg. There are countless items in their large warehouse as well as well as the warehouse in France. After spending two hours talking to them about various items in the collection and the items in storage, they asked if I would return later this year to spend a week with unlimited access to the warehouse in order to conduct a complete inventory of equipment in their collection. We are still working out a time and the details but it is a great opportunity to preserve the history before it is lost. They are going to photograph the items in storage in France as well and forward the information to me for review. We will likely be writing an article for publication on the history and evolution of various pieces of equipment used over the years. I will also be making recommendations for equipment that should go on public display. There will be more information to come. It is great to report the good news since so many of you have been supportive of my research over the years. :D -Ryan

Ryan,

That is absolutely incredible!

I'm sure that I'm not the only who can't wait for your pictures to be posted.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop.

Regards,

Joe

That is the coolest thing I have heard about in a long time. Well done! No one could do it better than you! My hat is off to you.
