SCBA or SCUBA !?

Thu Nov 24, 2005 5:26 pm

O.K.
Regulator looks "kind-of" SCUBA.
Mask looks like gas mask inside.
Any ideas? (No assumptions just because of it being listed as "Vintage SCUBA")

Russian

Thu Nov 24, 2005 9:56 pm

It is a Russian double hose regulator. Dave Sutton has them on his site, if you hunt around there you will see many goodies. http://nobubblediving.com/little.diver.htm

The rigs use the same hoses as the USSR rebreathers and have a dsv (dive surface valve) at the mouth piece. Typically Russian diving gear looks like it was made by the same factory as made their main battle tanks. Parts which we made of plastic 50 years ago, they made of machined bronze.

They had a rather interesting tank arrangement, a triple set with a short center tank so the demand valve could rest between the side tanks. Dave Sutton's little girl models the rig. See Link.

Dave is top notch, so buy anything he sells with confidence, I always have.
