Those little rubber Yoke WHEELS

Mon Nov 07, 2005 3:04 pm

These are frustrating little yoke wheels made of rubber.

When you tighten the yoke screw down to the valve, the rubber starts to spin, and you cannot get a good and tight seal on the valve.

Any suggestions for fixing this.

I thought they might pry off, but they look like a tight fit, and not much ability to flex. I dont want to try prying it off because i dont have a replacement rubber wheel in case i bugger it up

Any ideas

Sorry but I only have the new USD knobs available with the long yoke set. I do have some brand new Survivair USD knobs that are exact replacements but have the different sticker on them.

I believe that those tire yoke screws were made to keep us from over tightening the screw...I have seen a bunch of the older style ones all bent to HECK from people that crank on them needlessly. I am a young diver with only a smidge of experience compared to the rest of the master divers like CAPTAIN TOM and Bryan, but I think that you should put the reg on with only a sligth bit of pressure and let the pressure from the tank valve make the reg seat to the oring. Once the air is on the screw is held solidly and will not come loose.

I was specificaly told way, way back that those rubber tires are intended to slip to prevent damaging the regulator. They are not supposed to be super tight, just snug.

I do have another rubber wheel job on my DA Aquamaster converted to RAM specs, and the wheel is tight, allows for a good snug fit to the valve. This wheel is so loose, you could put it on a set of hot wheels cars and race it. because it slips so easily, you cannot get a good snug seal on the valve.

I thought of cross drilling with a fine bit, and put a brass pin through the wheel into the metalic part of the yoke.
