I have a pair of hoses that came off an older DAAM. they are standard one inch and one and a half, if they will do, PM me your snail mail address, and I will send them to you. They are not new, but are serviceable

New black hoses

Sun Aug 05, 2007 8:27 am

I have a limited supply of new never used or installed black rubber hoses which will fit your regulator.

Price $30.00 Pair + shipping
Shipping has increased-not certain of actual cost but generally about $5.00 to $7.00 within US.

Since you reside in SD and I in Cen Cal one would assume the shipping would be reasonable.

Please advise ASAP as I leave for Portage Quarry Wednesday.

news!

I repaired the hose, and it turned out better than I thought! I then proceded to test the reg in my bathtub:) and now I have additional questions...

1) The reg free flows unless you are actively exhaling. Is this normal? or did I make some mistake during the reassembly?

2) It is relatively hard on the exhale. Is this normal since you are forcing your bubble out a hose and back through the housing?

Thanks again everyone!
Spencer

(21 - PM sent, treasureman - 1-1/2" is to large, but thanks!)

No it should not free flow and no it should not exhale hard. That particualr double hose is a fine collectors piece but it will never match the essentially "modern" performance you get from a DA or RAM (or Voit equivilnets) or a good Nemrod. It may take you much experimentation to get it working well enough to dive. You should check your IP and second stage lever setting, make sure the cage valves are pliable and the exhaust valve is flexible.

Hi Spencer

I see that you have received advice in both web sites. I hope it all makes sense.

My experience with the Sportsways double hose is that they can perform as well as some of the best double hose that I have. I am going to have to respectfully disagree with Nemrod on this point.
With a new diaphragm, Rob's regulator was performing just as good as any of my RAMs. The first stage leaked, but that is a different issue.

Which model Sportsways did it turn out to be? Is it the down stream second stage demand valve (with a lever) or the upstream valve with the needle arm type lever?
Was the first stage balanced or was it the unbalanced type?

Some pictures of the inside of the case would help to identify it and I just want to see the condition of the inside.

Did you disassemble it completely, cleaned, reassembled it, and properly adjusted the IP and second stage (if it is the down stream demand valve model)?

How are the diaphragm and the check valves in the mouthpiece and the exhaust chamber?

What pressure did you adjust the IP? Is the IP holding steady (for several minutes) or does it drift up, indicating a 1st stage leak?

You may also want to pressurize the regulator with an IP gauge attached and close the tank valve. Let it sit for a while and check if the IP goes down, indicating a very small leak.

Sorry about so many questions, but to help you diagnose its performance it would be helpful information.

As mentioned at VSS, any water testing should be fully submerged with the mouthpiece and the diaphragm at the same level. If your regulator is adjusted to deliver air at 1 inWC, it will free flow if the mouthpiece is not in your mouth and 1 inch above the diaphragm.

Playing with a double hose regulator should give a much deeper appreciation of the pressure differential in a water column.

Have fun.
