Mr. Gasket

Fri Jun 08, 2007 10:24 pm

There is always room to refine and improve…..For 4 years now I’ve been reproducing the body to can gasket on the left. It works with all USD and Voit regulators and as far as I know it has worked for everyone…..BUT a few of you have let me know that the OD is quite a bit larger than the original gaskets. I realize that detail and perfection are crucial to those of you who are doing restorations. So I went to Mr. Gasket and asked that he take a break from making stuff for SB Chevy’s and Fords and concentrate on the Vintage Equipment Line for a bit…..Anyhow in the next couple of weeks I will have available the EXACT duplicate of the original seen on the left. Just let me know when you are ordering if you require one. Until I run out of the batch of reproductions I have been using for years I will not switch over to the smaller OD ones unless you request it….. Hope this helps and thanks for the feedback.

Personaly, I prefer the larger one. leaves more room for variations between bodies, cans etc. I would rather have too much than too little. But non of this would be possible and My RAM would have been in the land fill had I not found VDH.

Thanks for the parts

I don't care what gasket you put on my reg as long as you rebuild it with your new parts. Where else can I get a complete comprehensive rebuild for the low price that you charge. That reminds me I need a rebuild kit for my voit lung!!!! :D

Rob,

You've said it all! Bryan's parts and rebuild service are top-notch and the prices can't be matched.

Thank you Bryan and keep up the great work! :D

I also prefer the larger gaskets.

Also look at the picture below. I bought that regulator last year from a very nice old fellow. He didn’t think the regulator has ever been serviced. The gasket is original and looks like a large gasket.

Oh, the regulator is a Pico Ave. DA Aqua Mater and has not been used since the 60’s. I hooked up to a tank in front of the old fellow to show him if it still worked. No only did it worked. it breathed like a dream.

I just rebuilt it and it is a great breathing DA.

The regulator came with a set of the highly corrugated hoses that are in very good shape.

all boils down to chice I guess. Me I like the wider gasket, doesnt detract from the beauty. Some nay like the smaller thickness. thats ok too. I am just too used to seeing the thicker one.

Either way it goes, the nice thing is.... we still get parts that keep our regs flowing and blowing..... Going to experimwent with a small screen device in front of the exhaust holes to lower the noise level a bit. Will be interesting to see what it does.

I agree that it may be a matter of choice, but my point was that if someone is trying to do a precise reproduction, the small OD gasket may not be the only acceptable choice.

The gasket in the picture is original and seems to be closer to Bryan's earlier reproduction gaskets. I will try to measure it and post the dimensions in a bit (if didn't throw it away already).

In any case I have seen a lot of different variations from one regulator to the next, I am sure gaskets were no different. Through the many years of production, they probably had several different sources.

It is very nice of Bryan to try to match perhaps the most common gasket size, but IMHO either one seems like a good reproduction. Granted, I like diving this stuff. I am not a collector. Function is priority one for me.

Function is indeed a priority. Your re design of the RAm nozzle to the new Pheonix spec is fantastic. Benn giving both my twins a good workout, cant believe teh difference compared to my RAM.. both use the large gasket. Then again my twins are Mercedes black powder coat so they really dont show up that much
