Despite the way I come across, I don’t know everything about these old regulators……When I get stumped on a technical issue I often E-mail guys like Captain, Luis, Nemrod, Dan, Ryan Spence etc. I have sent many regulators out to those guys for advice on what I am doing before I return it to the customer. It has to be right when it leaves my hands or it’s not going back to you. And if you are not happy with it I will make it right…. I have a Stream Air that belongs to Roger Miller (turtle guy) than has a damaged volcano orifice. I’ve had it for 6 months. And between all of us we will figure out how to repair one that is severely damaged or replace it or I will run across a spare body that I think is an acceptable replacement I’ll put it back together and it will go back to him. Until then it stays with me.
Doing it right should include some common sense, not just blindly following specs and instructions. .Gary D, AWAP on SB

When I place a bid on eBay I always think: how much am I willing to gamble…do I fill lucky today?
The odds are better than in a casino, but this way I am never disappointed.

Bryan has never actually done any repairs for me since I have always done my own (since the early 70’s), but I have seen his work and my observation is that his reputation is well deserved.

Even Bryan can’t perform miracles, therefore I am sure he would have let you know if there were any parts that could not be salvage or brought back to a good condition.

Since you intended on converting it into a Phoenix anyway, truly you haven’t lost much.
At the end I think you are going to end up with a great regulator.
Some days you are just lucky and every falls into place. JMHO

I agree, that is a very good looking regulator and I think it will be wonderfull with the Phoenix. While some don't agree, I think a round label RAM like your will be a great conversion unit for the Phoenix, take heart, it will be all good. Bryan can fix it up.

Capt Tucker, I am sorry you got taken advantage of, it was none of us I can guarantee that. Also, I guarantee that Bryan can fix it up for you and you were going to convert to a Phonix anyways.

The Phoenix nozzle you will get is BETTER than a RAM NOS nozzle, it has better internal parts and replaceable volcano orifice, it looks super on a late model round label RAM.

Most of the stuff I have gotten on ebay has been fairly represented and it is hard to tell from a picture sometimes you know. Don't be to upset--I am positive this regulator will work outstanding for you and people will drool in jealousy over it :D .

Keep that DA nozzle for a spare if it is still OK, it will come in handy when you buy a ebay DA that has been converted to a RAM

I, by the way, have one VERY expensive RAM also--- and my DA was kinda top dollar too--it happens --and yet they have become my two favorites--hang in there.

Nemrod,

I'm sure this new round label Phoenix will be awesome, and my fave regulator. But I am still irked that I won't have that original RAM nozzle to put away in case I ever wanted to return it to stock condition. Guess I'll eventually be looking to get ahold of one. Anyway, this PRAM is what I'll be using at Sand Dog IV; you can drool over it then.. :P

So far I have picked up 3 double hose regulators off ebay at acombined total of about $380. A 1950's Spiro Mistral that needed nothing but a clean up for under $100 including shipping, a rare US Navy DA for under $100 and a very nice late, long yoke USD Mistral with good original hoses that also needed nothing but a clean up for $180.

Captain, which ebay are you on because me and CapnTucker need to get on there. :D

Great that you (CapnTucker) will be at SDIV, I just made my reservation for myself and friend, Jake, so we will be there to drool over your PRAM.

I'll be traveling lighter this year, just one PRAM, my Mistral and my infamous and EXPENSIVE DA. Jake will probaby dive the DA, I had him in the pool with it over the weekend getting the two aquanited.

All three were bought with Buy It Now prices. I guess I was the first to recognize a good deal with the Buy it Now price and jump on it. Sometimes you lose waiting for a better deal. I see items being bid way up above the Buy It Now price all the time.

James,

You had better be planning to bring the Tekna DPV. I'm planning on bringing my Mako DPV, and two toys are better than one. 8)

Capn_Tucker,

I have an extra Royal Nozzle (Just the nozzle, not the full assembly). It was in a bunch of parts I bought from a dive shop. I think it will work, but it isn't the prettiest one you'll ever see. I think about the only thing you'll have to find is the spring block because most everything else is in the Royal Kit that Brian sells, or he has available in the store. I'll bring it to SD if you're interested.
