Where's your sense of adventure? Rob would have put on a bit of duct tape and taken it diving!

Imagine what metal cans would have looked like..... Not even the master, Dave Ali, could have savaged such a wrangled mass of brass.

Looks like a burial at sea may be required for those cans. And they were so young!

ODE TO A FALLEN KRAKEN

A Kraken did crack, oh my!

The cans hit the deck, and Bryan did sigh,

It almost hit Herman, whose foot was near.

Darn that diver, Herman thought, as he lept back in fear.

Bryan shrugged it off as R&D,

Grabbed another Kraken from Luis and jumped back into the sea.

The pics got posted, and all were aware...,

Condolences poured in from all those who care.

Some saw the issue as merely problematic,

Others were less than, shall we say, diplomatic.

The bottom line is that some folks are having fun in Cozumel, despite a fallen Kraken,

The rest of us live your lives vicariously and benefit from all the new toys you are a makin'.

[Ok, I'll go back my medication now.]

I dropped mine from twice that height with no damage at all done to it. But the can uses allen head screws that better distribute the stress.
A sincere THANK YOU to all at VDH who make this wonderful resource available and to all the thoughtful contributors.

Like everything in life, there is always a trade-off.

In this type of a fall, if the cans would have been stronger (metal), the regulator would have probably become a total loss. There have been similar accidents and the outcome was a damaged brass body, yoke interface area, and damaged yoke.

In this case it will be very easy to just replace the cans and the regulator is back in business. You could think of it as the cans provided a sacrificial crumple-zone.

Note: I am just pointing some trade-off facts; I am not just trying to justify the choice of plastic cans. There are a lot of other reasons for the selection and design behind these cans. This incident is miniscule compared to the design benefits and as mentioned it was probably very beneficial to have a crumple-zone.
