Thanksgiving Dinner?

Mon Nov 25, 2013 10:02 pm

For those celebrating the holiday what's on the agenda?

We will be dining at The Columbia in Ybor City. Not sure if I am ordering from the Thanksgiving menu or the regular one...Then Cuban coffee and a Don Pepin Garcia.

We had gone to the LSU/Arkansas football game last year and we had a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with the Indians. We were in a little town on the Arkansas/Oklahoma border and the only place open to eat was the buffet at the Indian casino.

- A Turkey, smoke roasted in the Weber PLUS a Blue Ribbon Prize Chicken we won from sponsoring the local 4H Club at the County Fair. Trying a special sweet potato recipe... Whipped with raisins and brown sugar, etc. Got the kids and grand kids coming. Should be a great day.
- What are we thankful for? Lots of big things... Loved ones, health, prosperity... And no kidding about that. But I'm also thankful for VDH... Been a very big pleasure in my life these past 3 years. :)

Watching guys change out mechanical seals on HTF pumps at a solar power plant in Gila Bend, AZ.
Should make a tidy little poke for working this job during a holiday.

This is my Argonaut cash infusion :-)

I will run up the freeway Thursday morning to moms house in Palm Springs- I'm picking up the Bristol Farms dinner - easy peasy

Going to Coonass country to feast with the surviving members of the Couv clan. We'll have a cochon de lait, turkey, cornbread dressing, several pies, and a rum cake from Keller's Bakery in Lafayette.

Happy Thanksgiving to all,

Couv

I will have my daughters home for an early traditional Thanksgiving dinner with my wife and some friends. The house already has the aroma of hard work in the kitchen. :D Then after a wonderful meal, fellowship and football, I get to go deal with the doorbusters at Target. Think of the scenes from Braveheart with the anxious masses rushing to do battle. It's what I live for.... Mike

8am – rise 'n shine, make eggs and flapjack for the family, put parade going on TV

9am – get the cranberry/orange/pecan jello stuff going

10am – start in on the pumpkin pie(s) using a new to me type this year for the filling… it's all green and lumpy but the guy at the farmer's market swears that it's his mom's favorite… we'll just see about that

Noon – get the pie(s) in, switch TV over to football, and throw out some snacks for the masses

1pm – start assembling the "bird" for a 1:30 start… We go Tofurkey at our place as a matter of conscious. It's the one day a year I sign-off on eating something that isn't looking back at me. I thought the wife had lost her mind the first year she had suggested a tofu pho-turkey, but I tell you what, it is some darn fine eating and pretty easy to fix just right

2pm – mashed little red potatoes & baked sweet potatoes

3pm – boiled onions, steamed carrots & celery, steamed green beans w/ shaved almonds

3:15 – stuffing, brown gravy, warm the bread up a fuzz

3:30 – eat till it hurts, and then just a little more

4:30 till close – Port wine in the Barcalounger while rubbing undercarriage and watching those who didn't cook (everyone but me) pick up and wash dishes. :D

It's a proven system for us and I enjoy every minute of it, despite the fact we could go to the best resturant in town for 1/2 the price and none of the effort, but that just's wouldn't be as much fun. My only regret is that my inlaws have both now passed-on and my own parents will also not be able to travel and join us this year, so it's just the three of us, the 6 idiot dogs, and the giant grumpy parrot Steve, but you play to the audience you have & say a prayer for the rest.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends here and their families too.

Looking forward to seeing yall at Sand Dog XI,
Fred

Thanksgiving in Pismo Beach California begins the day before Thanksgiving at 1:00 PM with a free Police sponsored Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings.
It is a local civic event that is attended by old and young rich and poor.

The serving line is manned by the chief of police, his staff, the mayor and staff. The food is donated by local restaurants and food purveyors. Table service for serving deserts and clean up is provided by local youth groups, 4 H, boy and girl scouts.

The event lasts to 7:00 PM in order for those who work can also enjoy a meal.

It is now 5:00 AM in California, soon my little dog Max will be awake and we will go for a walk on the beach.

When we return wife Betty will be busy prepping the dinner, this year the children are all celebrating with number two daughter 200 miles south in SoCal; we decided to remain in the comfort of our home, enjoy the parades and sports, may be watch a movie.

Today is scheduled to be warm and sunny - no rain, no snow, and no sleet.

Tomorrow Dottie Frazier , who is visiting her number 2 son who lives a few miles south will drop by for a visit. It is a happy time to reminisce about events of times past and sadly those who are no longer with us. All to soon the visit is over..

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.....

As happens on many holidays, Rob has to work. I'm home cleaning up as we are celebrating with Rob's mom, and all my kids and grandbaby on Saturday.

Here's a picture of Bob, he is checking on the Turkey's making sure they are thawing on schedule. I will roast a traditional bird, with stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, sweet potato casserole, mac n cheese. Rob is trying his hand at "smoking" a bird on the Brinkman. He is pretty famous around these parts for his "smoked chicken" this will be his first turkey.

Hope everyone has a great day.
