This forum often makes reference to US Divers regulators, (particularly Mistrals, Aqua-Masters and Jet-Airs) with the designations 'DW', 'DY','DX' and'DA'?). Starting on page 170, Fred Robert's 1963 printing of "Basic Scuba" contains a nice history and explanation of those regulators, but does not explain what DW, DY, DX and DA mean. Are they acronyms, or merely model designations?
Thanks, Andy

I've been told that the designations actually came from the parts bins where the parts to assemble the respective regulators were located within the US Divers factory. The single stage, metal can regulator was the DW - first as the StreamAir than as the Mistral, The two stage, metal can regulator was the DA, first as the Navy type, then the Navy approved, and finally as the Aqua-Master. Seems at least as believable as any other explanation I've heard.

P.s. Welcome aboard, Andy.
