Duckbill Eliminator Incident

Mon Apr 02, 2012 2:19 pm

- While on vacation, I was diving my Phoenix with the Duckbill Eliminator Upgrade. About halfway through the first dive, my regulator started to free flow a little. It wasn't gushing but it wouldn't stop with the exhale and inhale cycle. So, I headed to shore.
- When I took the can apart, the one way valve on the Duckbill Eliminator was stuck to the diaphragm. The shaft of the valve was still in it's hole on the Duckbill Eliminator. I think the free flow must have happened when the valve and valve shaft kinked... Holding the diaphragm slightly in the inhale position.
- I don't know what the cause of the valve separating from the Duckbill Eliminator was. Maybe it was stuck shut and an exhale popped it's retainer notch loose?
- A real easy fix and it worked great for the rest of my vacation. But, its worth noting here in case anyone might encounter a similar situation.

Doing it right should include some common sense, not just blindly following specs and instructions. .Gary D, AWAP on SB

Thanks Bryan. That sounds like the perfect solution.
