Free Villy

Mon Mar 12, 2012 2:21 pm

As mentioned elsewhere at the forum, I have just found a chromed Villy Arp :D

Searching the internet for new information’s about Villy Arp, I found this text, on a European homepage, and a similar, but shorter, notice about Poseidon double hose regulators:

“Today regulators is rare collectibles and assumable so desired, that a Danish collector personally was displeased about that here was links to and photos of his regulator. In between he has even removed his photos from the internet. There should exist persons; that hide their Rembrandt in a safe, so they are the only people that can get any satisfaction from it.……..
I didn’t expect that to happen between divers, it’s so sad.
Free Villy”

I am the Danish collector, and I have an alternative to the original text:

“Today regulators are rare collectibles and desired. On three different homepages, a Danish collector shared information’s and documents about, plus photos of, his rare Villy Arp and Poseidon double hose regulators in the year 2009. Even thought I have had many complains about violations of others copyright, I decided to use the Danish collectors material on my own homepage. I didn’t answer the Danish collector, when he kindly asked me to remove his material from my homepage, but I removed his photos only to deep link to his material instead. Finally the collector resigned, and removed his material from the pages where it was shared for free.
I didn’t expect that to happen, it’s so sad."

Best regards

Niels

P.S. I hate the fact, that I don’t know for how long he has being slandering my name on the internet

Some people like to think that regulators are rare collectibles, but there are lots of regulators and most of their value is in our imagination. Sometime people get carried away with their own feelings of importance. One man's treasure is still another man's trash. Most of these regulators are rare simply because they weren't very good to start with. They become even rarer when the widow start's cleaning out the garage.

I was contacted by a European website holder for pictures recently, only to find that he watermarks, as if he owns the pictures and the items in the pictures. I have noticed other people who like to watermark too. Just because they scan something, doesn't make it is theirs. So I don't see the point. Putting a watermark across something which was simply scanned is a sort of plagiarism. It is also foolish, as it is an admission of an unauthorized duplication. It is particularly annoying if you have paid to obtain a copy of the scanned material. True, no one will copy it, but neither will they use. I would rather provide pictures to websites which do not do this. Steve

I rather enjoy collectors that share and actually dive their vintage gear. I really never saw the point in hoarding a bunch of dive gear in a smelly basement that nobody can ever see in action. I would guess that 75% of my vintage regs are dived as regularly as possible. That is one of the reasons that The Scuba Museum and VDH makes parts for so many regs. Before the silicone hose mould and so on many people, including myself had to make due with OEM used parts or substandard reproduction. Now with VDH and our silicone Many Voits, US DIVERS, SPIROS, and Healthways are back in the water.
