Disassembling the body from the can !!!

Thu Feb 02, 2012 12:18 pm

Guys I do not know but I recall that somebody made a body holder out of wood and clamp it on the table so the body will not turn while using the wrench.I am trying to find the pictures and build one for myself. Can you point me to the right direction or if you have the pictures can you attach it to your reply
Many thanks

Doing it right should include some common sense, not just blindly following specs and instructions. .Gary D, AWAP on SB

Here is a photo of the body clamp I made a few years back.
Image
It’s made out of a piece of scrap oak hardwood flooring. This gives the advantage of not scratching up the reg you are working on! The straight part is where the hooka port goes. You will notice that I took my router and created an area for the reg body to sit in. See photo.

To use this jig/bodyclamp insert as in the following photo’s.

Finally, you can use your body wrench to remove the body ring from the reg. Mine was made from a socket that was made for working on a four wheel drive. I have to file it a bit. It only took about ten minutes to make and it works great.

See Bryans link for a kicka** body ring socket!

How tight would the body ring have to be that you could'nt just hold it with your hand? I removed the ring on my PRAM that Bryan rebuilt by hand using a rag to grip the ring and other hand around body by hooka port. Like opening a tight jar of pickles.

Swim Jim , Thank you for the pictures. That's the one that I am looking for. I just want to make one to make my life a litte bit easier when working with my regulator. When working I really like working with my two hands (Free to hold as much tools on both hands) and the one that I am working(which is Regulator) I like it clamped on a vise or something that will hold it stationary without damaging the chrome finish..Again thanks for the quick reply.

Bryans work is not only squeaky clean, but properly torqued. The "issues" come in when your working on something that's been together for 50 years and put together by Popeye the sailor while cranked on spinach. Then a body clamp and wrench save your bacon. A few squirts of PB Blaster is also most helpful as well.

Swim Jim thanks for the tip...I am making sure that I got all the bases covered when working with the regulator..I want to familiarize myself with the tools needed. My regulator will sent to Bryan when the PHOENIX is available. He will work on the upgrade.

Many thaks again
