Just want to say hi here. Made my first dive with a double hose today. Nemrod Snark III. Picked it up a few weeks ago and went through it. Still need new hoses for it. Made a dive with regular equipment today. Then a shallow bit with the snark. Worked great. Been diving for five years now and been fascinated with double hoses/ simpler equipment from the start.
My friend u cant go wrong here .I remember when i 1st started seems like yesterday not only was i accepted with open arms but u will b surprised with this forum they r so knowledgeable, down to earth, and eager 2 share everything they can help u with. best Rgds
Welcome to the board.
I have got to get a Snark one of these days, I like the looks of them.
DH (double hose- you will see us use a good many shortcuts in spelling) diving is different with some things you have to get use to like how the breathing resistance changes with different body positions but once you get the hang of it, it becomes second nature. Look through all the old post and in the other sections of this board, there is a lot of good information that will help you along.
My Snark III Silver. One of my favorite reg's. Mine is a late model that has an HP port. I dove this a lot at Portage last year. I use a green VDH/US Divers hose set. It also has a modern silicone LP diaphragm in it. breaths like a champ!
Thanks for the info!
It was interesting getting used to the breathing. I had it on an old dacor tank pack with an Aluminum 80. Positioning was definitely not optimal. I have been reading as much as I can on here since I got the regulator.
Here are some pictures of it and the rest of the setup....
Regulator with the hoses back off. They are in rough shape and thats why I only went a few feet deep. Need to order new ones still.
The tank that came with it I had hydro tested and it passed. It was smeared with white house paint, but the original gray is in decent shape underneath. Still stripping the white off. It looks perfect inside and hopefully I can get a dive shop to inspect it. I ideally want to get the whole setup in nice working order. They already laugh at me for usually diving with the dacor backplate instead of a bcd and using a Conshelf XIV.
Nemrod guys help me out here. I do not recall ever seeing one with the USD type "C" clips, all the ones I have ever seen have a band clamp. Did some come with clips or is this a best we can do repair?
Sometime between 1963 and 1967 (I am missing 1964, 65, 66 catalogs) Nemrod changed to the ring clamp. Prior to this year (1964-67)) the clips were used.
Interesting.... The first hydro date on the tank is '63. The girl I bought the setup from says her dad boxed it up when she was born in '76 and it has sat since then. So I would be inclined to believe it is a fairly original un-molested setup. It's last hydro date before I got it was '76. If it is all '63 that is cool cause it matches the year of my daily driven car....
Mount the tank in the back pack so the regulator is low on your back, between your shoulder blades. It will seem a bit strange but thats the best place for breathing effort. Divers do not swim horizontally, but somewhat upright, thus the regulator needs to be low, and about level with your lungs when submerged. Have fun! Steve
