What can I add to the site or forum?

Wed Mar 09, 2011 10:01 pm

I have some extra time to devote to the site/forum so if you have any suggestions please let me know. Pictures, technical stuff, etc. I can't do it alone and without the support of all the forum members it's impossible to keep it current and interesting.

Thank you

There is so much on the site it's hard to pick something lacking but one thought I have (because I'm in the midst of it), might be a video tutorial for setting up a regulator (or other aspects of maintenance/care). In my case a USD Mistral. I know there is a manual for that but sometimes a video can show some subtle details.
That's just a thought. The site is great as it is :D

I have really enjoyed the videos and made good use of them. A couple that showed assembly and setting all the way through, and maybe a couple that went in and showed you addressing common problems, would all be HUGE, but I kinda get the feeling you stopped where you did out of liability concerns…. which if it’s the case, I do understand but regret. :( Now, if you do make a few more, I might back off a little on the AC/DC and go with VanHallen for the next round….

Also, while very sick for several days last month, I got into every thread I could find.
I think it would be nice to continue with the Vintage Diver Profiles, or at least repost the two that went with the threads still in the archive….

Could be nice to have a dedicated place to post specific info about good dive spots we have encountered and what you need to anticipate when you visit them with vintage equipment.

Also could be nice to have a dedicated place to post photos. Maybe one of equipment porn, and one of people. Seeing folks all geared up and at their favorite pond/beach are always something I really enjoy seeing, especially since I haven’t had the chance to personally meet so many of the people here. The ones I have met, I’d like to see photos of twice as much! :D :D :D

A history spot to save all of Bernie’s good stuff. :!:

Finally, maybe another sub-forum to find all the inventive stuff people have fabricated on their own. I hear Luis has a mouthpiece plug I’d like to see, DB has a DSV he maid I like to see, Sounds like Captain has made all sorts of good stuff, Steve made a jig or two, Allan has sewn up all kinds of things, yes?

I realize we already do several of these things in one form or another, but some dedicated places to find them would make the search a lot less random. I realize you probably don’t want a bazillion sub-forums, but there is SO MUCH fantastic content on the site, a few more file drawers in the cabinet, would make much of it way more accessible.

Just my thoughts. Thanks for asking.

If I did that it would be like cutting my own right side hose  The coin I make from rebuilding regulators helps to keep VDH running and new products on the market.
I do hope the videos I have done in the past help to get you pointed in the right direction :D Thanks for your input!

I would suggest a gallery of pictures, showing gatherings and locations. I realize that members already illustrate their activities, but people like to see people, and divers like to browse without a lot of information, but who is there and where they are. Steve

One of the more inactive forum topics has been the Vintage Dive Trips or Gatherings. Obviously winter is not the most condusive for diving, especially for us wimpy ones, me especially. However, if more events are planned then there are more opportunites for the vintage group to dive together. Even if 3 or 4 divers do something, take pictures, tell a story or two then the rest of us might just get off the couch and actully do some diving. Come thaw, the Finger Lakes are good dive locations. Ring me up and we'll go. The more the merrier or so they say.

I'll try and help but I don't understand how this is different from the trip reports that everyone does after an event ?

Anyone and everyone is welcome to do this...It has not been updated because no one has volunteered any information.

See if this will work.

I like this idea too. :D

I realize that there's now a plethora of new and reproduced parts, but there's still a part of me that kinda hankers after the DIY "fixes" that others have come up with - sort of a throwback to how "inventive" people needed to be when parts availability wasn't how it is now.

Oh, and would it be possible to have a sort-of directory tree on top of the browsing page? (I'm not sure what its really called). I find that I have to click on the main forum button to get to the parent forum, then I have to navigate through the various sub-fora to get to my topic. It would be easier to navigate a subforum if there was a quick "map"

For example, if I was in the vintage forum:

Forum - Vintage Diving Forum - Topics

and wanted to go to a different topic in that forum, I'd have to either:

a. reload the previous page - which can be difficult considering that some threads are multiple pages long

b. Go to the parent forum then renavigate - which can be difficult because some of the threads I'm looking at are several pages down the list

c. Open multiple tabs - which is what I do right now. A bit cumbersome at best.

Just saying...
