New Job = More Toys + More Trips

Tue Jan 11, 2011 9:20 pm

Well so far the first week here being a teacher has gone well. Seems to be getting better each week too. I am here in Wamblee, SD teaching Lakota Studies K through 12. I am just happy as I have a job and am having fun doing it. I am looking forward to having the funds to make some trips now to visit and make some dives. Still want to try to find others up this way and make at least one ice dive this winter. Been wanting to do that since I was 12. Also hope now that I "think" I got my planning down to start figuring out that valve more for the drysuit.

On a side note there is a pool here at school and all the kids are fascinated with my scuba stuff. So I think at some point I will be bringing in stuff and showing the kids.

Congrats man. It's always nice to hear about someone getting a leg up. Hopefully things continue to go well for you. 8)

I hope you get the time to show the kids. We did a vacation bible school in 2003 with a Scuba theme. At the conclusion of the week, we took all our volunteers to the local pool for a discover scuba event as a "thank you." Those kids are now young adults and still tell me how much they enjoyed that event. For mid-land kids that may be their only opportunity to be exposed to scuba and it could be life-changing. I have always loved the water, but never had the opportunity to become certified until age 41. Oh, how I would have loved exposure at an earlier age. Good luck and best wishes on your career and diving.
