What where the rigs used in the movies "The creature that challenged the
>> world" and "The creature from the black lagoon". It seems they were two hose
>> systems that fed into the top of the mask.

Post that question on my website forum and you will get all the

Thanks for your reply, at any rate check the movies out, they did very innovative underwater work.

Best regards,
Mark Arnold

Please lend some advice on the subject and we can make it into a document to post in the download area......We need Bernies buddy to help us out now!!!
Doing it right should include some common sense, not just blindly following specs and instructions. .Gary D, AWAP on SB

There were three films in the series and the SCUBA was different in each one. Rico Browning was the underwater creature. He was the stunt double you thought was Lloyd Bridges in Sea Hunt.

The Creature from the Black Lagoon was the first and like Sea Hunt, it was filmed in two locations, Silver Springs and Universal's back lot. Richard Carlson appeared to dive with a green label Aqua Lung twin (one piece blue hose). The actual diving was done by a stunt double at Silver Springs. The best scene is with the creature swimming like a mirror below Ginger Stanley, the female lead's double, swimming on the surface. Julia Adams was the actual female lead and appears in the surface shots.

The second feature was The Revenge of the Creature with a different cast and it had a DESCO standard dress commercial hat, Scott Hydro Packs and an Aqua Lung. It was done at Marineland.

The third feature was The Creature Walks Among Us, at Wakulla and the early DivAir double hose was featured.

The trilogy is available with excellent bonus features with some of the stars and it is the best video you will ever see showing early SCUBA. http://catalog.ebay.com/Creature-Black- ... 286.c0.m14

In 2004 I attended the 50th anniversary "Creaturefest" at Wakulla Springs state Park where most of the surviving cast, crew and stand-ins for the orginal"Creature from the Black Lagoon" had met to celebrate the 50th anniversaty of the orginal "Creature from the Black Lagoon."
One of the high points of the weekend for many was Ben Chapmen (who play the creature topside) shaking hands with Ricou Browning (who played the creature Underwater)for the first time in 50 years.(Ben Chapmaen has since passed away)
Wakulla Springs was the site of much of the orginal films underwater scenes.

There was another film produced I have never been able to locate"Creature Feature's 50 years of the gillman." which explores this classic horror film on its 50th anniversary celebrating the fandom, storied history, and cultural relevance of this 1954 suprise hit film it starts out with titles stating:

No Nominations.
Not one friggin award.
Its been 50 years.
AND HE'S STILL PISSED OFF!
