Dive buddy needed PSL/West Palm Beach FL

Sun Nov 22, 2015 10:33 pm

Greetings all,
I'll be on leave in the Port St Lucie/West Palm area of Florida for most of December and am looking to see if anyone is interested in diving with me (vintage or modern). I'll even pay for tank fills! Just trying to get back in the water as much as possible this trip.
Thanks in advance
Ian

Ok, I'll throw in Air/Nitrox fills AND charter fees.
Seriously nobody in Florida wants to go diving?

Hi Ian,

I am not aware of any active board members that live in that area, just didn't want you to think we are snobs or ignoring you. I am in North Carolina so I def too far away. If you haven't, a try on Scuba Board might help, there are a lot more members on it.

Hi Advisor,
That's a very generous offer! I guess it's just bad timing for most of us. I'm way off in Texas, and it's just too far to drive for the lower probability in Winter for diveable weather offshore.

I'm going to suggest that you try contacting some of the dive operators that you plan to go out with and explain your situation. Maybe they can set you up for diving with one of their divemasters... it's sure worth a try! If you need some suggestions on shops that we have found to be friendly, just ask, and I think you will get some helpful tips.

My wife and I gladly volunteer to make some phone calls to Florida for you if that will help. Email me and we can correspond about that.

I'm sure that we are all hoping that you find a suitable diving friend for your leave! You deserve a good break and some great diving. Best of luck and happy diving!
The older I get the better I was.

Herman & Bill,
I've actually emailed just about every dive shop and charter from Ft. Pierce to Ft. Lauderdale.
Sadly only a handful ever followed up. Worse still only a couple of them showed any promise.
So far just one charter has said "no worries we have a crew member who can dive with you."

I will be working thru my Divemaster course with one of the shops at West Palm, but the rest of
my vacation is wide open. The majority of my vintage stuff is in storage, however my gf Danielle
Shipped one of my DA-AMs off to Bryan for the Phoenix upgrade and overhaul. Aside from that
only my modern kit is on hand.

The offer still stands as I am trying to hit the water daily and don't mind being generous.

Thanks all
Ian

Many dive clubs have FB pages where they post dive gathering. The one here in Tampa seems pretty active so hopefully the right coast will have similar groups that you can join up with.

I've got the same problem. I'm up in Wisconsin. I'd love to join you, but it's a heck of a commute! I dove with an operation in West Palm back about 2007. A small outfit. he was pretty good though. I'll see if I can ferret out some info for you.

My son lives in Weston, a Ft. Lauderdale suburb. He dove with the Sand Dog group when Sand Dog was in the Jupiter area. If it's Ok with you, I can forward this to him to see if he is interested. He is a working stiff, so he's probably only available on the weekends.

Bbain,
Thanks for the offer to help. Weekends I have covered, it's just the Monday-Friday that has been an issue.
So far one dive charter has offered the use of one of their crew to serve as a buddy, Unfortunately it's also
a charter who has some pretty mixed reviews. If nothing else pans out I will roll the dice with them and see
what happens.

Bryan,
I've considered getting back on Facebook for this very reason. I left it for a while, but it seems to be an
almost unavoidable method of communication these days. It was two friends on there who lead me to
the forum.

Swimjim,
If I happen to be up in Wisconsin again next year I may have to track you down.
Always wanted to try ice diving. The last time I was there it was the summer and
only felt like winter. Used to be an FSR for Oshkosh once upon a time,

We usually head to Fortune Pond in Upper Michigan in March for "THE" ice dive. https://vimeo.com/124034771 If your that far up North, your in the neighborhood! There is homemade chili and cold beer involved. Love to have you up there! if that's a doable thing, let me know. Just a suggestion, you don't necessarily have to dive. We can easily teach you to be a line tender. I think you will be able to handle the beer drinking and eating hot chili part. It's just an easy, laid back day or so. A good time..

Jim
