Andre Laban prints

Thu Apr 11, 2013 1:59 am

As many of you remember, Andre Laban was a member of the Calypso crew and was made a bit famous when he appeared on an episode of "The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau" painting underwater.

One of the episodes even references a gallery in L.A. exhibiting his work.

Anyway, I cannot find his prints anywhere. Does anyone have a link or a good place to start looking?

There's this:

http://www.artetmer.com/index.php?mact= ... turnid=191

and found this nice video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxT7D-Uotww

now if we knew someone who spoke Russian, we'd really have something. :?

Also a couple other random sites that just talk about him some and show a few paintings. Looks like he's popular in Ukraine. Given the Eastern-Block fanclub and the fact it's cold up there, mostly, I would bet there is a galery or two in Cyprus that has some things. Lots of disposable Red money in Cyprus, though 40% less now. Very interesting place, had a great, brief visit, and I'd go on about the really beautiful local crafts... but I don't want to re-offend the Turkish Mafia  :o

It may end up that the best you can do is a photo capture and print something yourself which I don't think would be unethical as it sounds like you'd be happy to buy a print if you could find one. :D Let us know what you can track down.

Thank you sir,

I also found this Youtube video. All the info seems to be in French.

Not sure about the Cyprus route as I do not wish to register on the site just to browse. I thought for sure the Cousteau Society or Ocean Futures would have the prints, but that's been a no go so far.

I'll keep checking.

Someone in Cypress was kind enough to charge over 1k in merchandise and airfare to my card last week. I would take a bath with a rabid dog covered in anthrax before I would register on anything that says Cypress...

in 2011 Andre Laban was in Grand Cayman Island and was inducted into the Scuba Hall of Fame, if you can get the video to play you will see a few of photos I made of Andre and the diving saucer.

If not it is still an interesting site to view other members of the Scuba Hall of Fame,

click on Video Biographies on the left side of the main page, seems to work better then the one above.
