CHUCK BLAKESLEE Skin Diver Magazine Publisher

Thu Apr 19, 2012 11:19 am

I received facebook notice from Jeri Blakeslee that her husband of 64 years Chuck died 17 April 2012 from Pneomonia.

Chuck was the retired Skin Diver Magazine publisher, a avocado farmer and friend, As a long time subscriber to Skin Diver Magazine I was delighted to meet he and his Jeri when I lived in California in the 1970's and have visited them in their retirement in northern California

A true diving pioneer,I'll miss his quiet wisdom and subtle humor.

Jeri's quote,We'll find him somewhere "Beyond the Reef!"

Doing it right should include some common sense, not just blindly following specs and instructions. .Gary D, AWAP on SB

4-20-2012 Update.
Dear Bernie,
I am writing to tell you and all our diving friends that Chuck died on Tuesday, April 17, at 10:22 a.m. 12 days ago he suffered a bleed in his upper G.I. tract, losing a huge amount of blood and later developing pneumonia, as his body was too weak to fight any longer. He was healthy 'till this event except for severe osteo-arthritis, which made walking painful, but he had a great time in his Rascal scooter running all over the neighborhood and taking our dog, Zak, on his runs.
His last years were filled with memories of early diving and his many friends and acquaintances of those times. He was so proud of the recognition given to him and Jim on many occasions. I'm sure that everyone who knew him recognize what a special man he was.
His mate and diving buddy of 64 years, Jeri
