New member and new to double hose!

Mon May 21, 2018 3:08 pm

Just ordered my Kraken a couple days ago and thought I'd pop in an say hello! I'm a cave, CCR, technical diver, but wanted something fun and different for the limited recreational diving I do so I figured I might as well go crazy!

I'm looking forward to a new and exciting way of getting wet!

Welcome, Dalen! The simplicity of vintage style of diving will definitely be a new experience. Here's hoping you enjoy Vintage.

Welcome from further out west in California! Take and post lots of pics using your Kraken. You are going to not only enjoy it but will meet lots of new people asking you questions about it. GO KRAKEN!

Welcome to VDH and enjoy your new Kraken.

Wow, from Douglas AZ.
In college I dated a girl from Agua Prieta/ Douglas. Later on I never thought I would ever be back to visit Douglas, but it turn out that 20 years later I would return many times for work. I have stayed at the Gadsden Hotel many times.

You can't swing a dead cat by the tail without hitting somebody from Douglas. At least that's how the saying goes! Small world!

And VDH does not have the "my feelings are hurt" police like you are used to.

I suspect that is probably because the owner is prone to hurting our feelings? :-P

Got it in the pool tonight. Had a blast!!!! Using my normal BP/W so the can was damn near behind my head and I didn't die. I was worried it would be like strapping on a pair of split fins and they'd find me tomorrow morning in the deep end.

Picking up my VDH plate from the post office tomorrow and I'm excited to see how it really breathes when it's in the right spot. It wasn't bad at all even out of position. Did some clearing stuff. It was REALLY hard to take it out of my mouth without closing the DSV. Definite mental block from diving a CCR. Clearing with just an exhale was easier than I had anticipated. No gymnastics necessary.

Took a little bit to get used to the DSV since the whole barrel spins and I'm a twisty knob Shrimp kinda guy, but I'm sure as soon as I work it in a little bit and it loosens up I'll be more comfortable with it.

I'm excited to take it reef diving. I'm positive the weirdness is gonna keep those grubby little "helpful" DM hands off my stuff. And I can't wait to take it diving with one of my UTD sidemount diving friends and watch him develop a nervous twitch.

I only had an SPG plugged in, so inflator or octo so I still have some playing around to do but I think 40" loosely bungee'd octo is gonna be easiest.

Don't turn you back on any DM that has not been plainly told "HANDS OFF OF MY STUFF". A lot of us have had "helpful" DMs adjust our regs without us knowing it. It's a PITA to get down 30 ft and realize something is off. A VDH member had a DM damage his reg recently, twisted a Phoenix and damaged a seal- nothing that could not be fixed on the bench but ended diving it for the day. Most of the time it's just moving the BC to where they are use to seeing it. Many times the BC does not set well in a boat tank holder which is what flags them to "help"

Wait till you dive with us, it's common for us to not have a BC, much less the other stuff, that really freaks out the DIR/UTD types.
