Scubapro Mark 7 rebuild. O-ring tips?

Sat Aug 31, 2019 2:11 pm

Hi. I’m rebuilding a mark 7 and have it all disassembled and cleaned.
There sure are a lot of similar o-rings!
Anybody have tips on how to be sure the right ones go in the right spots?

Whenever I disassemble a regulator for the for the first time I take a photo of the oring and part it goes on during the disassembly process and then measure the oring on a printed out oring chart and make a list of the sizes and related part/position. Once I get the hang of rebuilding that reg I kinda know which orings to go where, but still refer back to my original photos/notes on occasion. I'm sure there are other (read: better) ways of doing it but that is my anal approach. Good luck. Mark

Thanks Mark!
It’s been fun so far.
I’ve been laying out the old ones as I go.
Your suggestion of o-ring card a good one.

For the record, the rebuild went great. The reg works like a charm. It even honks like it’s supposed to!

Good to hear it's working well. I have been reluctant to tear into one I have, but your success with it has encouraged me. :)
The older I get the better I was.

Just looking at your chart, I don't see the piston stem oring.....did you get it? It is really hidden and hard to find, esp if you don't know it's there.

Herman, thanks!
I did get it. It was the last out so it didn’t make the chart.
I printed out the drawing from the file archives and made sure I had them all where they were supposed to go.
Pretty sure I got them all right. It works and the IP is something like 135.
Excited to dive it in the pool Monday.
As a side note, I did the 109 second stage too and it came out great.
I still have a Voit MR to do and the USD DH, so I’ll be in the forums :)

I annotated a MK7 diagram with all of the correct o-ring sizes. The durometer is not listed, so be careful that you install a high duro seal (85-90) for the piston stem seal. I'll try to attach it, but if that does not work send me your email address and I'll get it to you.

I could not attach it here, but I was able to attach it at that other board. Here is a link:

It has been a long while since I rebuilt a Mk 7, but if I remember correctly, several of the Mk 5 O-rings fit the Mk 7. You might check into this. (I used to have xeroxed Scubapro schematics; they're packed away here in boxes, somewhere.)
