Scubapro 109 question

Hello all,
I've recently purchased a Mk5 with 2 109s and I have a question.
the old one serial number 159070 has a roll pin holding the adjustment knob rather than a C clip.
Is this normal or should I switch it out?
Cecil

My two cents....I hate the roll pins and if I'm refurbishing a regulator to sell again I always put in the traditional C clip.

Never seen one with a "roll pin" (I had to google it to see what it was - we call them "spring pins"). I do have one that has a variant of a c-clip. Never seen another like it...

The first 109s got the roll pins - yours is from 1971. Around 1974 they changed to a thin clamp with extra Slot. Seems it was not the best hit so they changed again after probably 2 years to the common D-Clip that most of you know.

A change from roll-pin to D-clamp is no problem. If you plan to have it as a user - do the exchange. From a collectors point of view, you do a harassment to that 2nd stage - Keep in mind that there are not many units with the pins still around... You should keep it - at least as a spare part....

Ive got that part if you need it. Ive actually got an entire (in poor condition) 109 if you need any other parts.

I actually prefer the looks of the roll pin. I have two early production units that came to me with the pin, and I kept them in the same configuration. While I am very fond of the Voit MR12 design, I must admit that the 109 was a true "game changer" when it entered the market in the late 1960s.
