Healthways/Scubapro dates etc

Wed Jan 20, 2016 11:01 pm

Hi All
I have been pulling my hair out trying to sort this issue - Hopefully someone can make sense of it.

To start if you go to Scubapro timeline sight you will see in order of date
Healthways Scubair Sonic - But the picture is only a Scubair with RED label
Then you have Scubapro Scubair J - ORANGE colour label
Then you have Scubapro Scubair 300 YELLOW label.

Now i have some regs marked Healthways Scubair Sonic GOLD label ????????

Also in my collection i have
Healthways SCUBASTAR + SCUBASTAR TD + SCUBASTAR T.D.Q.K.

AND to finish this off there are Healthways twin hose regs
SCUBA - Blue Label (i have 2)
SCUBA - DELUXE Blue Label (i have 2)
SCUBA - Gold Label (looking for one)
SCUBA Master - That i believe is very rare (looking for one)

Questions are who made what - when. Who stopped making what-when
Looking forward to your replies
Thanks from Western Australia

You have to remember, Healthways upper management were the ones that broke away and became Scubapro, Dick Bonin, Jim Christensen, Gustave DeValle. Or at least that is how this antique ole diver remembers it

Greg should be around soon to help on this, he's been busy at work and helping me get all the Voit trophy shelf queens ready for Sea Hunt Forever..

The Scubapro brand was intended to be the "professional" line from Healthways. When Healthways filed for bankruptcy, the Scubapro name was sold (I've heard for the sum of $1), and the earliest regs were simply relabeled Healthways single hose models. There were never any double hose regs sold under the Scubapro banner, to my knowledge.

Reports indicate this took place in 1962. That sounds correct, as the first Scubapro catalog was a 1963 edition.

It certainly would have been interesting if Scubapro had developed a new DH design, and brought it to market.

Does anyone know if the Scuba Master was ever sold? I know it's in the 65 catalog but I have never seen or heard mention of one outside of the 65 catalog.
Just for fun I looked up the 2 patent numbers listed in the catalog....one if for a run of the mill second stage but the other is a 1877 patent for a washing machine. :)

Hi Greg,

small correction:

The Scubapro Healthways regs were offered in 1962 when Scubapro was part of Healthways. They also advertised in Jan 63 (ad was still started under Healthways) the Polaris.
As soon as Scubapro was Independent, they offered other regs...

While SP was part of HW, SP was intended to be the prime brand, so they took regs that were offered under HW later...

Thanks, Frank. Your knowledge of the Scubapro line history has always impressed me.

While I am primarily known as a collector of the Voit/Swimaster MR-12 series, I have the deepest respect for the Scubapro MK5/109 combination. To say that it broke new ground is a major understatement.
