Why so frequent? - search issue

Tue Apr 10, 2018 7:29 am

I very regularly get this message when checking in:

"Sorry but you cannot use search at this time. The server has high load. Please try again later".

Yea, me too.
When visiting, I always go to the "active topics" button, and probably 75% of the time get that error message and give up. Total bummer. Wish it wasn't a problem, but glad it's not just me.

Just a heads-up that this issue still persists pretty frequently...

Guys,

I don't want to shake my fist like the bitter IT guy here, but saying something happens does literally nothing to help me fix it. If you come across this, and you want to reply here, then list the time of the day to the minute and which time zone you were in when search didn't work for you. Alternately, use zulu time if you want. I need to know when our servers hit their peak load.

As an example, there are like 450,000 lines of logs. That means I would have to read 450 thousand things to find where the peak amount of errors are.

Pretend it's a car. It's much easier to fix a car when you bring it in and say, "The front left tire wobbles" then when you drop it off, shrug at the mechanic, and go across the street for coffee.

If you need a format, copy and paste this:

Day of the week search timed out:
Time that search timed out: HH:MM
Time zone you are in:

Also, please don't email me this, because I get ~1700 emails a week at work. Just reply here if you want, and I'll get to it.

The short answer is I'm still working on it, lol!

Server load set to zero at 1630 Pacific Time 8MAY18.

Please let me know if you get search time outs after this time period. I just did ten searches in a row for "dive", which nets me over 5,000 results. It's working right now at least!

Lots of new members joining so I think that may be part of the reason but I'm not sharp enough on the subject to know. Thanks for your help on this Ron!

Heck yeah. Don't get me wrong, having so many people like double hose diving that I have to tweak the servers is a good thing :)

Search is still working for me at this point. Has anyone else seen any more issues?
