Forum email button issues

Tue Jan 13, 2015 6:33 pm

For those interested I would suggest Clicking on the little envelope icon right below where it says Location: Austin TX in his original post....This will allow you to directly E-mail him and bypass any forum features he may or may not be familiar with .....

That envelope icon does not show up on my computer or phone. Any specific but simple suggestions on how to fix that?

Sorry about that Bill. ..I'm sure Ron will look into how to fix that when he reads your post.

Everything works. I am not sure if you guys are browsing while logged in or not, but no icons will appear if you are not logged in. That is by design. I hope this helps.

I checked Firefox, IE, Kindle, IPhone, and Android FYI. All of them work when you are logged in. :D

I'm logged in and using IE 10. Didn't work with earlier versions either. ???

For what it's worth Bill, it ain't just you. I always sign in to poke around cause I like to just hit the active topics shortcut, rather than going to individual sub-forums, and I've never seen the envelope button till Bryan's post. Would be handy though. As far as the golden reg. goes, I'd love to have it if I only had the coin.... Hope whoever gets it has the stones to dive it. Would look pretty darn cool just floating past... 8)

Not to turn this into an IT thread...but to turn this into an IT thread:

Do you have email turned on in global options? Do you have an outlook or email client set up on your computer as well?

Also, I will create a user account tonight and check your email button permissions. If anyone else needs help, just post here and I will copy this to a new thread tonight. Thanks!

My global options are still set to yes for email. I am using Outlook as default email, calendar, etc. Are there some other settings I have overlooked?

Re: Forum email button issues

So here's what I did to fix this for everyone:

I had to get some custom code for our forum, because when I set the email permissions loose enough for all of you guys to see them, then the forum also showed all of your email icons to anonymous users (people not logged in). I worry about bad guys getting your email addresses, so I integrated some custom code from the PHPbb forum guys that block your email icons for anyone who isn't logged in, yet also shows it to any user who is registered. You guys should all be able to email one another with your own personal email addresses regardless of your internal permissions. Please let me know here if you continue to have trouble.
