If not Bryan (VDH always first), Randy at Piranha Dive manufacturing would be my next choice.

Website store stocks the wide sliders used on the VDH plate if you need more of them than the ones supplied with all harnesses I ship.

Tks for the support Rob!

What bolts do you use to attach the wing? The plate sits flat on the tank and flat on your back so I assume people use the lowest profile

Oh I am using the HOG wing.

Thanks!

Another question which cam band slots do people use the inner or the outer, or does it depend on the wing?

This ones work well.

I have also just used a zip tie to just hold the bladder in place. It is held in place by the tank band when it is against the tank.

It depends on the wing. If possible, always try to use the outer ones, it holds the cylinder in a more stable geometry.

I use the stainless or the Delrin "sex" bolts that can be gotten many places including Dive Gear Express. Maybe the vdh store has some? Yes, they will protrude slightly on the plate but it matters not. The Delrin ones are not expensive and I usually carry a spare set, just in case.

I use the inner slots which work well with my Oxy wings that I have had now for quite a while, a 18 and a 30.

The Delrin ones are used on Zeagle BC's so any Zeagle dealer should have them.

I have not done it with my VDH plate but several years ago I made a flat plate of Kydex stock, not too very unlike the vdh plate, but shorter and no cut outs. I countersunk the face of the plate and used a nylon countersunk head screw (or stainless) with a stainless tee nut inserted into the wing grommet. This is the smallest stack height I have achieved. I have not done this with my vdh plate (yet) as the sex bolts are fine even against just a rash guard shirt.

I love Kydex. :D

Looking at the VDH backplate and while it certainly seems well designed for mounting a DH reg and very sturdy I'm just just wondering about its weight?

Most of my 'interesting' diving lately has involved travel well off the beaten track where even the usual international 20kg weight allowance becomes 15kg or even 10kg on some small regional airlines.
This meant 5-10kg excess baggage fees for each leg for each person during a recent dive trip to Flores in Indonesia...

Seeing as CAD files exist (the VDH is already CNC cut from aluminium plate), could a travel version be produced from 16 gauge 316 stainless steel with lightening cutouts similar to the DiveRite XT Lite Backplate?
It would seem the XT Lite won't allow a DH reg to sit low enough... but it weighs only 1.17kg (2lb 9.4oz) vs 2.4kg (5.2lb) for the standard XT model. A VDH travel plate with DH can cutout would weigh even less...

https://www.diverite.com/products/backp ... backplate/

I love the fact my Kraken DH reg vents from the rear, well away from my fragile and easily spooked macro subjects... and I'm keen to take it to remote places, but when fitted up with a Termo brass-and-glass SPG and an Atomic Z2 octo the weight is getting up there for air travel.

Any thoughts...?

VDH plate weighs 1lb, 5oz which in my opinion is light enough for any use. I could make them from stainless steel, carbon fiber, titanium, kydex etc but since they are not a mass market plate and really only serve our small area of the diving community the cost to produce it in various materials simply does not add up.
