Interesting gift...

Sat May 08, 2021 7:42 pm

Buddy just gave me a USD 72 steel. It has not had another stamp on it since its born on date in 1958! Has the Pico Location stamped on it. The j-valve appears to be 1956 if that is a date code.

Unusual or common?

Many of us have these tanks, and they are somewhat rare, but still kinda plentiful. Steel tanks can last over 100 years.

I have a set of double 1800 psig tanks from 1944 that are hydro current. I still have my first tank (a 72 cu steel) dated 1955 Rene , and a couple of others, circa 1955-6-7-8, and all are hydro current.

Not rare, but cool.

The problem might be 1/2" npt valves....

My 72's to date are all Norris and PST, so the first USD tank for me. Haven't seen one before. Also the fact it has no re-qualifications or any VIP stickers is amazing to me (though it looks "fairly used"). It does have a stenciled name painted on it.

Someone must have had their own compressor...

Yes, steels can go on for basically forever...

A few years ago I bought a set of Voit 50's doubled with just the original 1961 date.
