Hey Folks,

Guy wants $500 bones for this. I don't need it, but I am curious as to WT Hell is rigged to this early DAAM. Check out the mouth piece and also the rather strange Waterlung connector. :?:

The yoke attachment at the regulator inlet is a J-Valve conversion adapter made by Sportways. It was made to attach to almost any K-valve equipped tank so you could have a reserve with any tank you were using.
Seems like a good idea.

The attachment on the mouthpiece sure looks like a tire valve, but I can't imagine why.

That was my first thought, but that would be a good way to get water (or at least a lot of moisture) into the housing since this is in the wet side.

Camera attachment would come from the horn. I have one in the museum.

I am guessing a similar fitting on a mask and an equalizer tube.

Another possibility is an early attempt to the Pro-Ear type of mask.

I have heard of a few divers that could not tolerate the water in their outer ear. The only way they can dive is with something like this that keeps their ears dry, but allows to equalize.

Sorry for the bump, but what about the possibility of a jerry-rigged crude surface air line feature? Assuming early DAAM's don't have a hookah port (I'm not too educated on variations of DA regs), that would be my guess for it's use. Just have a guy on the surface with a bike pump and an extended line - many commercial full face snorkelling masks at the time used similar principles. Correct me if I'm wrong on anything, I'm not entirely sure and just speculating.

I can recall the name but there was a mask that could be hooked up to the regulator to be automatically equalized.

Scuba Queen Ear Protector...
Image
- Back in 1973-74, I used a Scuba Queen ear protection system (above left) that was connected to my diving mask to equalize ear pressure while keeping my ears dry. Mine was actually connected to the free flowing Evinrude Aquanaut hookah mask I was wearing while harvesting Washboard Clams in the Lake Pepin portion of the Mississippi River. I had gotten an ear infection after cleaning all of the protective wax from my ears with alcohol and Q-tips. Sorry to take this off-topic but there was some discussion of pressurizing dry ear systems so I thought my story might be of interest. :)

Note: The hood on the right has nothing to do with this post... It was on the only picture I could find of the Scuba Queen.
