Rich's 250th Goes Vintage Style
- I was recently honored to buddy up with Rich "50,001 Questions" for his 250th Logged Scuba Dive. That's Rich on the right. He chose to go Vintage Style for this milestone dive because... He just plain loves his vintage style diving equipment.
- In the picture above, you can see he's got on his 2-piece beaver tail smooth skin wetsuit, double hose, vintage mask, etc. You can also see a BCD hose... That's from a back BCD that is rigged to a vintage "Dog Bone" back pack with original vintage harness. You can also see a Vintage SPG hanging over his shoulder. The double hose is an upgrade to a Phoenix RAM, which makes the SPG and BCD possible.
- The lake decided to go putrid after a nice 4th of July week. We had to swim on the surface through weeds, slime, and green hair to get past the weed line. Then down through 2 ft visibility until the 16 ft thermocline layer. Then the viz cleared up to 10+ feet! Much better but kind of dark from no light getting through the water above. We tried swimming out deeper but it got too dark to see anything even if the viz improved.
- So, we swam along the weed line and drop off... Saw some nice Walleyes, rocks, beer bottles, anchors, etc. Enjoyed breathing under water.
- About a 35 minute dive and then a creepy swim back through the slime and weeds to shore.
- Congrats to Rich for properly logging 250 Scuba Dives and compliments on your excellent Vintage dive gear.
P.S. "50,001 Questions" is the nickname given to Rich by Sea Hunt Jerry, the "Kemps Cow".
