On the set of Johnathan Birds Blue World

Sat May 19, 2012 6:55 pm

Currently filming new episodes in Key Largo. Diving his 2nd Phoenix with new VDH plate and wing. Maiden voyage with this unit equipped with the new HPR 2nd stage. He says it's working like a champ :D Johnathan dives a double hose because he likes it and had no plans on giving it up despite many lucrative offers to dive with modern single hose equipment. He told me he only dives with gear he likes and that works, not because he is paid to use it.
I hope the kids are watching his shows wearing their mask and fins like I did when Captain Cousteau was on TV so many years ago.

Johnathan Birds Blue World is cool. It is fantastic exposure for double hose regulators. I am going to order one season on DVD for my niece. Which season has the most diving with a Phoenix double hose?

I believe that only the last season has some diving with the Phoenix.

During the earlier seasons he was still using the “new Mistral” or some times he uses a Sherwood. The new Mistral with the hose weights is very heavy so there were times when he could not take it and would end up using his Sherwood. He also used the Sherwood for some cave/ cavern diving.

From now on I expect to see him with a Phoenix. There may be occasions when he may need to use his Sherwood.

I had no idea there was an underwater research station in Florida waters. A very informative video. Also has a few good clips of the Pheonix, which he's been using often since it's in the opening credits of both of the following videos:

The Aquarious underwater research station:

And here's one about sea snakes that shows quite a bit of Pheonix diving:

There's also a really fun to watch video of him diving the Great Barrier Reef near Cairns. About 2 solid minutes of Pheonix air time at the end of the video.

If you go to his web site you can see those episodes and a lot more:
http://www.blueworldtv.com/webisodes

At the bottom of that page he talks about tools (scuba gear) and his newes one is the one about the Phoenix.
