This is one of the many reasons waivers are required...

Sun Jul 31, 2011 10:01 pm

Bryan,

I finally got around to installing a computer pressure
transducer/transmitter onto the Phoenix I got last summer. But I ran into a
problem. Unfortunately, I find that all of the ports tapped into the
Phoenix are threaded for low pressue hoses. None are large enough for
high-pressure connectors. Now, am I missing something here? If not, then
this is somewhat disturbing. First, that this mistake could occur in the
first place and second, that a quality check didn't catch it, especially
when installing the plugs. So no one would intentionally install a low
pressure hose into a high-pressure port, but mistakes can happen and in this
case, the hose would install just as if it were in the correct port. Let me
know if I'm crazy here, or not, and then what we should do next.

Thanks,

Doing it right should include some common sense, not just blindly following specs and instructions. .Gary D, AWAP on SB

Perhaps the labeling was too confusing as to which ports were HP and which weren't:

Or maybe not...

Or it might have been a SE with just a dot to mark the HP :D

Personally, I like that it's all 3/8" not because its vintage correct, but it allows me to have less stuff in my save-a-dive kit - all same o-rings (90 durometer) and plugs.

As highlighted in the VDH Store:
Please note...All ports on the Phoenix nozzle are 3/8" thread as is traditional in vintage regulators. The High Pressure ports are stamped HP. If you are not using a traditional pressure gauge that is 3/8" threads you will need to purchase an adaptor to use a modern pressure gauge with 7/16" threads.

In this day and age it does not surprize me. So many people just buy something and use it with absolutely no idea of how it works. But then again, this is what the present day scuba training encourages, just use your gear and take it to you LDS is something is not right.

1st thought: OK....WOW......OK

2nd thought: Knucklehead.

3rd thought: My suggestion is to have ADAPTER tattooed on their forehead.

Aside from what's written in the store, as Bryan mentioned, its in the 2010 Phoenix Waiver:

...which since it is a signed document, is something that was theoretically read before signing.

To be honest... I kinda just skimmed mine before signing. Twice :D

But I'm sure if the 3/8" bit was going to be an issue for me, it would've jumped up and been noticed. At any rate, before I bought the Phoenix, I did a lot of reading on it here and on SB and VSS (pity about the lost threads here though...). Bottom line is that I knew what I was getting even before I got it.
