Underwater Review 1963

Wed Apr 12, 2017 2:54 am

During a web search today I came across "a special issue of the journal of the Exploration Society to mark the completion of five years' diving at the Imperial College":

Imperial College, University of London, is a highly respected institution of higher education here in the UK capital, particularly renowned in the field of natural sciences. This 26-page document provides an interesting insight into multidisciplinary scientific diving expeditions of the late 1950s and early 1960s. It can be viewed or downloaded as a PDF file at https://www.imperial.ac.uk/media/imperial-college/be-inspired/exploration-board/public/UnderwaterReview1963.pdf. There are two pages of period ads towards the end of the publication.

Back in the day when divers went on EXPEDITIONS.....Very nice piece of history, I'm putting a copy in the Manuals and Catalogs section for future access. They were diving in a lot of very interesting places from Antarctica to mines. With S.O.S and Sieve Heinke as sponsors/advertisers. Nice find!
Doing it right should include some common sense, not just blindly following specs and instructions. .Gary D, AWAP on SB
