Plumbing aisle mouthpiece

Thu Jul 15, 2021 5:48 pm

Since it's slow around here I thought I'd post my plumbing aisle mouthpiece, made out of HomeDepot parts.

There was a fair amount of machining done, like cutting the threaded parts off of a connector and fitting them over a section of PVC pipe. I needed to turn the pipe a bit for the threaded part to fit. The inside of the pipe was also machined for USD ww's to fit, as well. The hose fittings are standard sink tailpieces, and the chrome nuts and gaskets are regular sink parts.

I made a wood form for the bitepiece mount, and after turning a short piece of pipe for the ridge, heated it and fitted it over the form. I cut a slightly offset hole in the main body and glued the parts together with PVC primer and cement.

I am working on another intake hose connector that has a barbed fitting to connect to a manometer hose, so I can check cracking on my regs.

Nice work Phillip. You are always coming up with something. The threads are no doubt more rugged than the small fine threads on the Hope-Page rig.
One question, do you clean your hoses with Drano?

Is that a serious question? Or is that some Texas humor?

D'oh! I get it! Heh. Drano...

Normally, I wash hoses along with mps in the washing machine. I have rags left over from my cleaning lady, my rebuilds, furniture oil, etc.

I throw the hoses/mps in with the rags, a bit of laundry detergent, and bleach, and hit the regular wash cycle.

Works good.

And yes, the threads are more robust, and don't harden with age.

It works as well as an H-P mouthpiece. The nice thing about this kind of mp is that you can adjust the hose torque (you know what it's like when a hose is twisted), and bitepiece position on the fly.

You can tell I'm not a painter, by the orangepeel surface. D'oh!

Look under your kitchen sink for the next clue. :)

Yup. Standard plumbing nuts for sink hardware. It was a fun project, and it works great!

Depends on your question.. If you mean used for originally for then see above, if you mean used for in the mouthpiece, then they hold on the hose connections on to the main body and allow access to install/remove/service the one way valves in the mouthpiece.
