Boston Area Gathering/Charter

I’ve been talking to a few people locally and I’m thinking of putting together a charter for double hose/vintage divers in the Boston area sometime this summer. I already have a few people possibly interested but I figured I’d ask over here to see if anyone else was interested. Currently I’m just checking interest but if there is enough interest, I’ll talk to a few charters and we can get something put together!

Do you have any more details of what you have in mind?
As in proposed schedule, possible destination, details on the charter, etc.

I could be interested. I am about 2 hours away.

I dove some years back with Cape Ann Divers. I can't remember the schedule, but it was a fairly reasonable time for me to drive down in the morning.

Keep us informed on possible dates, etc as I might make the trip from WNY.

I’m thinking sometime maybe July or August, that way the water is the warmest. Currently I have two charters in mind, either Cape Ann Charters (Daybreaker) or Boston Scuba (Keep-Ah). Either one is pretty flexible with the sites and both run both a morning and afternoon charters. Ideally if we can get six people, we could fill the whole boat and pick the sites we wanted but there is plenty of options at any depth.

I’m currently thinking of either Saturday June 29th or August 10th with Cape Ann Charters on the Daybreaker. My personal preference is the 29th but I can do both days.

I spoke to the owner/captain and he has no problems with people diving without a BC so that should work for some people.

Some sites we have in mind are Halfway Rock, Newcombs Ledge, Big Fantastic Wall and Paddock Rock. Additional information on the sites are available here: http://divedaybreaker.com/dive-sites/

If we can get enough people to agree on a date, I’ll talk with the captain and have him put it on the schedule and then people can sign up on their own. That way there isn’t a rush to sign up and it gives you flexibility to jump on last minute based on availability.

I don't know about down there, but up here I consider all of June as drysuit weather (water temperature). In July August and Septembers is when I dive wet. I am not saying that I am oppose using a dry suit. It is just a different experience.

Are you thinking the early morning dive or the afternoon?

As long as it is on a Saturday, I could do probably either or both.

There may be at least two or three of us driving from up here.

Thanks

Yeah, I’m still in a drysuit for June too. Talking with a few people down here, it seems like the August date is the more popular one anyway.

I’ll talk with the captain and see what he has on his tentative schedule so far. My first inclination is to do the morning one, but nothing is stopping people from signing up for the afternoon too!

I am in...

If you want to have people ( more so with visitors not from our area) enjoying 5/6/7 mil wetsuit diving in those locations on the North Shore it needs to be mid July on.

I start my lobster diving in June, but water is still cold (mid 40’s- low 50s deg depending on depth). Luis is right, that is drysuit weather for most to enjoy.

We are confirmed with Cape Ann Charters on August 10th for the afternoon charter. Once the schedule is out officially, I’ll post again and people can sign up directly with the charter. It’ll be a 1pm boarding for a 1:30 departure.

There is a charter to the Patriot with East Coast Divers that morning so anyone that wants to make it a full day can sign up with them (ecdivers.com).

Gone and past. We really should get something together one of these years, had a good run 10 years ago with events. Hope everyone is enjoying dive season.
