With water temps in the 50's it is going to be a no go for us. Anna and I will not be attending.

If it's in the 50's I'll be doing a lot of boat driving not so much diving! I do have a new 5mil in route and I'll see how much my FLA acclimated body can take...Lord knows there is no lack of insulation on me to begin with

I wouldn't throw in the towel that fast. It warms up really fast as only the surface water spills into the St. Lawrence due to the topography. The East end of the lake is quite shallow and acts as a weir. Surface temps are rising fairly quickly.

Is it Fla. temps? No. Not until late August.

Update/Edit:

Just for information purposes, it was 73 degrees at 77' on the America, and 74 degrees at 106' on the Keystorm on 7/25/13 of last year.

in 2012, on 7/12 it was 75 degrees at 63' on a drift off Brockville, 72 degrees at 75' on the America and 72 degrees at 109' on the Keystorm....

Checking my log book over the past few years, the temps in July (mid), are in the 70-72 degree range. Similar to the temps of Florida Springs.

see....

I was updating while SB was posting....

I only wish I could have come this year. By the time I became aware of the event and the dates, I had put deposits down for Tobermory the same weekend. It will likely be 42 degrees there.....

I just checked the NOAA site, and the water temps at Alex Bay are 64.8 right now, and on the rise! That's good. Rob and I love diving The St Lawrence and are looking forward to seeing everyone in a couple of weeks. Do we have a final head count?

Regretfully, and with much disappointment, I will not be able to join everyone for Sand Dog XI this year. :(

The foot surgery I had at the end of last year became a second foot surgery this year because the bone never healed. I'm currently in the recovery phase and it's still swelling with the slightest of activity. Needless to say, my Doctor won't even begin to entertain the idea of me wearing fins yet. Hopefully, the second time is the charm and I might be able to get back into the water in a month or two.

Since I can't be there, I'm looking forward to following the diving through this thread on Vintage Double Hose. Please remember to post often and share all of your awesome pictures. Knowing Allen, this will be a Sand Dog for the ages. 8)

Sorry to hear you can't make it, and about your foot. I'm guessing you aren't running too much either. I had foot surgery May, 2013, and it is only now feeling really better. I'm hoping you are on the "road" again soon. We will get some great shots, and of course most of them will be from Allan.

Thank you Barb. I was cleared to start running again in January after being down for three months. I had to stop in mid-February because of the pain, and that's when I learned it never healed. I have been unable to run (or dive) ever since. After seeing 6 different Doctors in the same practice over the course of two months, I got a second opinion and decided to undergo the second surgery. I'm finally able to "walk" again after a month on crutches and another month in a walking fracture boot.

I'm really glad to hear that your foot is finally doing better, and thank you for the pictures of your trip with Rob to dive with Allen. 8)
