Sand Dog X Make Plans Now To Attend

Fri Jan 04, 2013 8:10 am

It's Sand Dog time again! Start making plans to join the 10th anniversary celebration April 5th, 6th, 7th in and around Orange City Florida.

We will be diving the two spots we originally gathered at in 2004

Blue Springs and Alexander Springs

Blue Springs

Alexander Springs

Both are great spots for divers of any level allowing plenty of time for checking out new gear or making multiple dives with various gear setups. Google either spot for more info and pictures.

Saturday afternoon will feature the culinary delightful Sand Dog cookout at Blue Springs Park.

Still working on details but I thought it was best to get the dates on the site so everyone can start planning to attend.

Excellent!

Eva and I are driving over in the next couple of weeks to check things out. Pier 16 was a great seafood place we gathered at then but it's closed now....The Orange City Motel is where we stayed but was sketchy 10 years ago....Will give a full scouting report soon.

Henry and myself were discussing SD and accomidations came up. Both springs have camping on site, for $21-24 per night. Anyone considering camping?

I am going to try but no promise. It is a long haul driving and flying is not vintage friendly. But, I want to :D .

Better make sure the motel has a pool just in case we get thrown out of the parks, at least we can dive in the pool. .

Dates are marked. Should be three from Ohio. Agreed with 8dust. Can't come soon enough. Wind chill in Ohio was -10-15 below this morning. You people in Wisconsin and Minnesota can keep your artic air.
First dives? 1967 and I never lost the fever.

I plan on attending; it looks like Daytona Beach is the closest airport.

Looks like it is but you may find better/cheaper flights into Orlando which is only a few miles farther. Tampa is in the 100 mile range which by interstate is not that far esp considering how much time you might spend changing planes in 2 or 3 airports. Personally, I would rather spend 2 hrs driving than sit 3 or 4 in an airports somewhere.

Orlando is where I used to fly into when I lived in Kc. Car rental is usually pretty cheap there as well.
