Diving near Norfolk Virginia

Thu Apr 22, 2010 9:45 pm

I am going to be in Norfolk Virginia for a couple of weeks in June (for work) and would like to do some diving during the weekend I am there.

I am probably looking at the weekend of June 12 and 13… any diving suggestions?

There are some good dives off-shore. I used to like diving the John Morgan which was a WW2 Liberty Ship full of lend-lease arms that sank during a collision. Have not dove it in over a decade but it used to be loaded with ammo, Indian motorcycles, tanks and once in a while someone would pick up a machine gun. At one time a LDS or two would display a big old .50 cal relic MG that was found on the Morgan but not anymore. Dive Quarters LDS had their non-functional machine gun seized by the jack booted thugs. The Morgan was about 110 ft and often was a nice dive. I did get a bend hit in my right side inner ear that made me lose some hearing, gave me vertigo for a couple of years and have tennitus from it. There are a lot of wrecks but require a bit of a run.
Forget about beach diving. Lynnhaven Dive shop and Dive Quarters both are running boats. Let me know when you get closer to coming down.

Hey Crimediver wanna hit Lake Rawlings one weekend?
Someone told me that diving a double hose reg will kill me. I had no idea these things were dangerous.

I haven't been to Rawlings in a long time. Used to do a lot of training there but that was about 12 years ago. I am sure I could be persuaded to do a dive there again as long as I don't get recognized as the guy who snuck a small homemade fishing pole with a jig on it to hoodoo a bunch of them one pound bream.
