Has this been covered? Im sure it has. I know it is recommended to use a non caustic gel stripper but the brands at Home Depot dont say if they are aluminum compatible. My store carries that clean strip and the citri strip. I called and emailed Catalina but nobody has gotten back with me.

Tank can be media blasted. Glass beaded produces a nice finish.

Meadia blasting is fine but as recent as last week I was told by then hydro testing facility I use that they wont test any aluminum cylinder that have been sandblasted. According to them it has to be failed on visual because there is no accurate way to determine how much aluminum was removed by sandblasting.
Should be no problem to find someone who uses glass or walnut hulls.

Look for stripper advertised as "aircraft stripper". Aircraft are aluminum. Auto parts stores usually have it.
