A Fixed Up 42

- My friend Tom McClusky gave me an 1880 psi 42 cf scuba tank. That's a plenty generous gift but he went a step further and got my other diving buddy SeaHunt Jerry to send it off for hydro testing and VIP. Jerry then put a spare Dacor valve on it and presented this little gem to me when we dove together at Fortune Pond this Spring. So, the little tank is certified like brand new. I dove it twice in the lake... What a neat little tank!
- But it was in serious need of a "face lift" to match it's new life. So last week I surface prepped and painted it. Put one of the new Aqualung decals on it. And attached an Aqualung Bac-Pac. Here are the results:

That looks fantastic! I've been wanting to pick up a mid sized tank and give it a facelift. One of these days...

Was that originally a painted tank or was it raw? Did you just use a paint thinner to strip it?

The tank and back pack looks great. Did you use a two pack paint?

- Thanks for the kind remarks. It was galvanized with scratched up, oxidized black Dacor paint. Looked like heck. I sanded the loose stuff which blended the edges of the black paint that was still good. Wiped the whole thing down with acetone to remove dust and any oils. Then I just hung it up and spray painted it with Krylon indoor/outdoor. I let it dry for 4 days.
- It's not the best paint but it was easy to get done this way and if I made it too complicated, I might not get it done at all!
