Thanks for the photo Bryan, now I'm jonesing for a cascade for my garage :)

Bill, unfortunately everything :( The rig came with the tanks, clamshell and the pieces in post 1. I need to recreate the hoses and the harness.

Check out how Halcyon connects their RB80 tanks together, may give you another idea.

Nice project, I love these rigs. They are like diving for Trekkies...I fall into that category, BTW.

!Warning! Noob Question Alert: If you drill out the adapter, does it weaken it? How much would you drill out to get the desire results without damaging it? Of course at $2 you could experiment on several.

Ed, cheeky monkey? I can't say I've thought of you as that. That must be a "Left Coast" expression... :D

It suspect it won't be long before I can hop in my transporter beam and attend the Portage weekend; if myvintage gear will pass through that is.

As it was I took time off this weekend from ABS repairs to go camp and dive with our club up here and do a little vintage of my own.

Modern regs in this shot but Fred Morrisons mask rides again. The story of its travel from east coast to westcoast and his memorial stone laying was told around the camp that night:

It appears the manifold can be broken down into three pieces. I think the easiest and possibly the cheapest is to have the manifold turned down and threaded to 3/4" so any current tanks could be used. Any machine shop should be able to do it.

Would the machining affect the strength of the aluminum manifold Captain? That sounds like an interesting avenue to explore. What would the technical name be for the new 3/4" thread? I know a machine shop I could enquire at.

The standard thread is 3/4" X 14 TPI straight pipe thread. Being the tanks using the thread are aluminum I don't see a strength problem with the manifold. Luis may be able to comment from an engineer's point of view.

I don't see issues with the threads, but that manifold has an oversized opening (and I don't know if it is centered). This could be the best solution for that system, if there is enough material to cut new threds, but I don't know if there is enough material for that.

Keep in mind that the OD of the threads is 1.05 inches. I will try to get you more info when I get home, I am still on the road, driving back from Portage Quarry.

Ypu may want to post some pictures of the maniflod with a scale near the bottom of the threads.

The smallest wall thickness apears to be 5mm. I don't know if that would be enough once they were turned down from 1" to 3/4"?

The outside diameter of 3/4" pipe is 1.050". What is the diameter of the dip tube where it screws into the manifold. '

Pipe sizes are based on inside diameter but even that is not exactly 3/4".
It is sometimes said nothing is impossible but some things are less impossible than others. If the wall thickness is too small to rethread it is possible for a talented TIG welder to weld up the inside to build it up but then the hole for the dip tube would have to be drilled and threaded for a smaller dip tube. Of course all this may not be real cost effective unless you have a friend or friends who have the capability to all or part of the job.

The 3/4”-14 NPSM male threads has a major diameter of about 1.034” and a minor diameter of about 0.938”.

It doesn’t look like you will have enough material to machine the out side. It is too bad that they had to put such a large dip tube.

How deep is the bore for the dip tube?
If you take some more precise dimensions it may be possible to cut the threads, but it is hard to tell for sure.

Thanks so far for the thoughts guys.
The dip tubes are funny. Large, but the hole in the manifold is small. I'm going to buy a micrometer I saw the other day so I can take some better measurements.
I'll post back when I do.
