Vintage Double Hose

Hubby shot this photo today and I seem to have a leak at the middle tank manifold. Any thoughts?

Are the bubbles from around the burst disc or the cylinder to manifold O-ring ?

Bryan I believe it's the burst disc, and not the O-ring.

Should I replace it?

If those are the original burst discs I would say error on the safe side and replace them...If they are new I'd just torque them a bit more and try it again.

It appears from the photo the air may be leaking around the relief disc, a fairly common occurance. The recommended way to deal with that is to drain the pressure, snug the plug a little, then refill and test. If not solved, replace the disk, washer and plug, which comes as a kit.

Of course you could also try the impatient, non-recommended method... snug the plug while still under pressure (while wearing ear protection and safety glasses). I shouldn't have even mentioned that.

They should be almost new, and given my lack of knowledge of manifolds, I just wanted to check. I'll crank on it a little and see.

Haha! Yea, I thought of doing that and my husband said maybe I shouldn't with 2000 still left in it...hm, I'm glad somebody in my household has some sense! Thanks!

Be sure to let us know if that corrects your problem.

By the way, tightening it a little bit means just that....and don't use a big wrench and if a little bit does not solve the issue, more is not the answer, it's time for replacement. The plug is brass and you can snap it off....that could be very bad under pressure and a PITA if it's not.

The recommended torque setting for the burst disc is between 50 and 60 in Lb.

You may tighten it a little above that, but as mentioned, over tighten it is not a good idea.

yes they are new burst discs and plugs and washers. I am sure a small tightening to the recommended torgue as Luis wrotewill solve the problem.

Roger, I knew you built it from new parts, but better to ask than screw up those beautiful tanks you made. I need to get a better handle on tank/manifold operation and parts.

BTW Roger, they looked just plain AWESOME underwater. My husband videoed me floating through a school of silversides with the triples, the sun is shining off the tanks, the reg and the fish.......WOW.

Submerge the manifold and while submerged slowly tightening the burst disc nut and see if the leak will stop. If just a little tighter, one or two wrench flats, doesn't stop it it will need to be replaced. I have done that may times after rebuilding a valve and have a small leak like that. I know that manifold, I built it.

Thanks Captain, for the manifold AND the tip, it's going to the pool today for tweaking. If I can huff them out there......I'm feeling lazy today.
