US Divers Double Tank Harness

Mon Aug 07, 2017 1:12 pm

I have a new old stock US Divers double tank harness. The instructions specify that it is for 7.25" tanks. If I use it on my Double 72's, will they put too much strain on the manifold?

- I took a set of the military harness bands off a set of Twin aluminum 80s and used them on my Sportways Twin 42s. I believe the Sportways are 6.9". I didn't know better at the time but it worked fine. Might have been 6.9 bands the whole time. They had the rubber liner under them when they were on the 80s. I used them without the liner on the Twin 42s.
- Does anybody know if there is a difference between the bands on the AL80s and Steel 72s?

I had AL 80's around here at one time and yes, they were about 7.25 dia. Steel 72's being 6.9 inch but still, that's just a little over .125 per side so I think we call that "good enough for government work"

In my experience I have found the bands to be very forgiving and have used them on both 7.2 and 6.9 tanks.

Worked out fine, with two small adjustments. The spacer that goes in the lower band had to be shortened by 3/8", to use with the smaller diameter tanks, and I had to add a washer and a split washer to the lower band, because I ran out of thread before it was tight.

How tall are you. The lower band is usually about 9 inches below the upper band to keep the waist strap at waist level.
I am 5"10" and the waist strap would be below my butt with the band that low.

I have found this to work for most customers:

Right. I always set that lower bands/ waist strap between 7 and 9 inch below the top on something like that.
As Captain said . . . And Allan' diagram . . I'm 6'0" and that lower strap would be around my hips or lower.
