Need assistance in developing a talk on vintage diving

I would like to solicit the collective knowledge of you kind folks. I have been asked to give a talk at a diving symposium on vintage diving. I have settled on my topic as being "The Sea Hunt Era."

While including fun facts about the show the topic itself is broader than just the show. Basically, I plan on looking at the state of diving in general during the 1958-1961 time frame.

That includes equipment innovations (for example the introduction of the venturi in regs in 1958 to the US market), diving clubs, instruction techniques and organizations (i.e. NAUI founded in 1960), diving in the media (Hollywood films, tv shows, published books, etc...), notable diving exploits (for example Connie Limbaugh died cave diving in France in 1960). Basically,  just a snapshot of diving life during that time period.

Looking for photos, video clips, stories, ideas, etc... that I can combine into a powerpoint presentation.

Post here or email me. Thanks much.

Mark

Ha.... I've never known you to be short of finding appropriate words to express any given subject about diving! You should write your own book!

Just in case you need a jump start on subjects from that era, look to your Parry and Tillman book, SCUBA AMERICA. It's fantastic, and will have to do until your book comes out.

Hi Bill. I do have couple of choice "appropriate words" for you but I shall keep my tongue civil for now. :D I do appreciate the vote of confidence. M

There's a 1959 Divemaster catalogue on Luigi Fabbri's "Blu Time Scuba History" website at http://blutimescubahistory.com/it/tecni ... eti?page=4. 28 pages of period diving gear supplied by a number of US manufacturers for the American market. It's a new era of colour, what with US Divers bringing out fins, masks and suits for the first time in safety yellow in 1959. As for "Sea Hunt", I'm not sure that the TV series ever reached here in the UK, but one of our British underwater swimming equipment manufcaturers, W. W. Haffenden of Sandwich in Kent, made open-heel and full-foot fins for export to the USA to meet demand created by the show:

Not a terribly good likeness of Lloyd Bridges on the top of the foot pocket, I'm sure you'll agree!

Any use? I'll leave it there for the moment.

Thank you Britmarine! I will take everything and anything I can get. Rather have too much info than too little. It's the little esoteric facts that make such talks interesting.
