Here is proof that perhaps they are.....

One of my great customers sent this in for a rebuild.....His only complaint about the regulator was it free flowed a little bit.....Bear in mind he had been diving it up until he sent it to me...

I have seen worse but they no longer functioned. That was still functioning--wow. I am sure regulators in this sorry condition are very common.

One of the problems with a double hose is that water can get into the can and cause all sorts of havoc. The only real solution is a dissassembly after every dive trip. Not every dive but every trip. Maybe an external and internal rinse if in saltwater inbetween dives by pulling the intake hose. If saltwater gets into the case and it usually does and it is left for some length of time it will damage the regulator and even freshwater can cause problems from bacteria growth and corrosion. My recent "flakey"diaphram is an example of what happens in freshwater when you forget to dry and clean the inside of the can. Fortuantely my DA suffered no lasting damage as I caught it in time and I think Bryan can clean this one up nicely.

Show us some pics after it is completed.

What is that chunk of stuff in the spring?

I have no idea what was on that spring! I do know that the last person that serviced the regulator also sold grease....Cause they sure packed every inch of this poor RAM full of the stuff!!! What moron would pack grease around the 2nd stage seat where it goes up against the volcano orifice in the body?? Sheer stupidity.....Obviously it didn't hurt anything but it took a hell of a lot of time to remove it all....But a RAM will always come though and it's back up and purring like a kitten!

I love the before and after pictures. They really document the level of service you provided to bring this RAM back to life.

You do great work Bryan! 8)

Betcha a single hose in that condition would have been taken out of service a long time ago.

Double hoses -- they sure take a beating and come back for more.

But somebody's gotta instruct the fella to take care of his gear.

Yet another use for Kentucky jelly aka KY Jelly. And I thought it was just for toast!
