Vintage Double Hose

I just picked up a Nemrod Snark III. Its in nice shape overall. I opened up last night and discovered a little corrosion which a vinager soak took care of. The other little problem is the mushroom exhaust valve is shot. Anyone know where I could aquire a replacement? I would really apprieciate it. The reg is good to go and all original otherwise. I cannot help on the Snarkb III, however, I have a Snark question along the same lines; Are parts difficult to come by for the Snark III ? I know someone who may be getting rid of one and also have a buddy who is looking to get into vintage diving with a double hose reg. I was going to suggest my buddies Snark III but want to make sure is an availibilty to obtain parts. I am not trying to hijack this thread, I am just inquiring about the feasibility of "'Snarking".

Mushroom valves should be pretty easy to come by, I'll have to pop one of my Snark IIIs apart & measure the critter up.

I was hoping to hear that they are easy to come by. This one measures two inches in diameter. I'll be happyto take mine back apart, I reassembled it so as not to lose anything, and measure the size hole the stem goes in too if that helps me get a replacement. Thanks

My mushroom exhaust valve was also ruined. I used a duckbill exhaust, and it works just fine. I would be interested in getting back as it was designed, so if you find some, let me know also.

I had an E-mail from member #112 Frank. He's in Germany but I belive he said he had run across a lot of Snark Parts. You might give him an E-mail to check.

I just picked up a Snark III myself... The reg came with the original rubber parts (hose, mouthpiece, ect) and looks to be in good condion, even though I havn't opened the can.

How does one go about removing the hose protectors off the hoses and can? I'm sure a little muscle grease would work, but the rubber looks like it is starting to crack and I would like to save them. I imagine replacement hose protectors would be hard to come by.

Nemrod rubber is usually very good. The hoses are secured with unattractive, but very good stainless steel clamps. The covers can be preserved with some automotive rubber protector which will lubricate the rubber and make it easier to take off. Should they tear you can just remove the clamps and use very heavy cable ties. An Aqua Lung dealer might be able to get the new Mistral clamps which would look okay. The protectors tend to hold sea water and are more for appearances than anything else. I have seen racing bike inner tubes cut as rings and used as covers. Large hose clamps found at hardware stores actually look very good, if you want to go that way.

I have a new Snark III and my 20 year old son has a new Snark III Silver. He won't use anything else.They are excellent regulators. Twin tank one piece manifolds and single J valves are often on ebay and there is a pressure gauge there now. It attaches to the HP port on the back. There are two sizes of HP fittings used by Nemrod and the one on ebay may require an adapter.

The third stage is just a LP pressure release. If it leaks you can usually just screw it down, or at least that worked on mine. There may be a way to adapt that to an LP line, but I would have to bow to someone elses expertise on that one. LP blow off's protect upstream demand valves. However, attaching it to a combination octapus/BDC filler would serve the purpose and provide the diver with a more conventional rig.

Original tanks, I believe were actually intended to be fire extinguisher bottles, and have a unique base that eliminates the need for a boot. Nemrod did use more conventional tanks too.

AmourAll would probably work. I ran mine under some hot water in the sink and that did the trick. I finaly put a duckbill in my snark III and dove it. Nice reg, very smooth.
