The 2nd stage seats on the Navies I just picked up won't come out easily. Before I tear into these I wanted to double check that indeed they are supposed to come out.

I never had one come out easily, but it can be done. Actually, the original schematics don't show the rubber seat separately, and apparently you had to buy the whole horseshoe assembly. We now know better, and can replace the rubber seat, but like you found out they are sometimes tough to remove. VDH has seats that will fit.

I used brass picks and pretty much ended up digging a hole out of the middle before I was able to hook a corner and pull it out. Its almost as if the seat was set and then crimped in place. The mount was clean when it did all come out so that was a plus.

I think you are right about them being crimped into place.

Yes, you had to buy the complete horseshoe. They are crimped in place and are usually very hard from age and have to be picked out in pieces.

Thanks for the help, I picked it out in pieces. Indeed my two were crimped in place. There is a ridge around the lip holding the seat in place which means it actually took a 5/16 x 1/16" seat. The standard DAAM/RAM second stage seat is a tad smaller in diameter. It doesn't fit under the crimp but it sits suitably and it appears it's going to work.

I think another post said to use some aqua seal or similar adhesive to hold the new seat in place.

I use a tiny dab of silicone sealer to hold the seat.
