It is a Sportways.

Def a Sportways. I know there are 3 versions of the regulator but I can't tell the difference from the photos. 2 versions, the Dual Air and Hydro-Twin (basically the same reg, differnt name)were unbalanced and the Hydro-Twin II which is balanced. I can't tell from the outside but with the HP seat out, it is easy to figure out which it is. On these if you intend to restore and dive it you want the unbalanced versions. There are a few HP seats to be had for the unbalanced ones, on the other hand, seats for the balanced ones are hard to come by. Take a look at the 1962 Sportways catalog page 3. They used the same basic internal structure on some of their single hose regs so the drawings on page 3 will give you the details of what is in them.

The Dual Air was a tilt valve second stage, so you have either a Hydro Twin(unbalanced) or a hydro Twin II(balanced). I suspect that since you have orange under the Scuba pro sticker that you have a Hydro twin II, since the Hydro Twin had a blue and silver sticker:

The Scuba Museum website has some very good photos of these regs and I would suggest you check out his site. The Hydro Twin II has a shorter balance chamber where the hp diaphragm is located and has an 8 sided nut. If the back of your reg looks like this, it's a Hydro Twin II -

http://thescubamuseum.com/regulatorsusa ... 20PICS.htm

The Hydro Twin has a 'taller' chamber with a 2 sided chunk of metal that the allen nut sits in.

I find it interesting that you have a Sportsways reg, with a HW mouthpiece and a Scuba Pro sticker... Given the SW, LeCocq, HW and Scubapro histories, I can't help but wonder if this was someone's attempt at ironic humor or something.

Great gift by the way.

EDIT: So I think you have a Hydro Twin II: I just realized there is no nut at the end of the long cylinder piece on the right side of the first stage( cannot for the life of me remember what it was for ). The balanced version did not have the nut, the unbalanced regs did..... like this one....

Curiosity got the better of me and I've been very carefully pulling up the labal
Mystery is solved. Is it rare and why not dive with it? It seems to work I havnt checked ip yet

It was a early Christmas preasent from my mom should I give it back so she can hang on her wall forever ?
Not much point in me owning it if I can't dive with it

First thing you need to do is take Mom out for a nice dinner and thank her for the wonderful gift! Last Hydro Twin II on E-Bay ended in the 700 or 800 dollar range if I remember correctly. I've seen more NED regs than I've seen Hydro Twin II's. I'm notr sure of the numbers, I think they are somewhat rare. New England Diver's probably bought most of them. unfortunately, NED did not differentiate between the various models. They just cataloged them as the Hydro Master - there was no distinction between the Dual Air, Hydro Twin or Hydro Twin II, once it had a NED label on it.

As far as diving it, they are great regs. I have found that mine tend to like a slightly higher IP, somewhere in the 150 range. Since the parts are hard to find, I'd give it a good bench test before taking it in the ocean. And the HW mouthpiece needs to go. A USD mouthpiece will make a world of difference.

I really hope you can keep that Sportsways label, they're hard to find in original condition.

Thanks for sharing.

Looks pretty good. I wonder if the Scubapro label saved the chrome some scratches.

I hopes it would clean up better but I guess it's done and ready for test dive I'm sure removing the old scuba pro sticker and trying to polish it will make it reliable :)

It's been dove a few times seems to work ok nothing to really brag about
I'll check the ip one of these days and see if that makes a difference

I know I said I would only dive it once but I had the Cressi mask on and then the hope Paige without mask but I still need to try with the health ways mouth peice and a curved usd mouth piece and then I will have to dive it again after I check ip to really test it. Haha

I'm starting to see why so many people seem to have so many regs

I'm curious to see what your impressions of the different mouthpieces are. I've dove the Hope Page and like it fine, but the USD's are still far away the best I've used in my limited DH experience.

After bench testing I decided the other board members were right in their assessment of the Healthways mouthpiece being a bad breather.
