A flash in the pan. Didn't survive long in the diving world. Sort of like this:
Good to hand on the wall, but not much else, IMHO.

Dacor experimented with something similar but it didn't pan out. Interesting oddity, though.

I have one, so far I've only used it in the pool. Very strange design, I thought it was defective when I got it. It has 2 holes on the bottom of the units rear. I guess you are supposed to head first dive and it vents from these holes. Seemed like it didn't have a lot of lift either. It works, just not well. Makes a good display piece.

Im not sure why you cant see it. I found it a VSS in the for store.
It sure looks cool. It's like a precursor to the BP/W... cool idea..

Dacor and several others had something similar. None of them worked out too well though..

It says it has 15 pounds of lift, in the range of modern mini-wings that are 17 to 20. I wonder if you could install a modern pull string type dump valve in the rear holes? It is a hard plastic wing, complete with built in "taco" effect.
Yeah, even today people tend to dive head up and feet down, it took the industry a long time to figure out that was wrong.

Are you sure that this was in a White Stag Catalog? The buckles are clearly marked with the turtle that was the trademark of "IMPERIAL MFG", primarily known for dive suits. They eventually got into some other equipment such as fins, and I think that I remember this item as being marketed by them in the 70's.

I think I remember it also as not being White Stag???
I also like the Hog harness complete with stainless buckles.
All of these integrated units, even the UDS systems suffered from one short coming in particular, there is no practical way to transport them via airline with any ease due to their bulkiness.
The modern wing accomplishes the same task better and lighter and rolls up and stuffs into a bag with minimal bulk. Why did it take so long to figure this out is my wonder.

It appears your correct. Dan has two pics on the item. He lists it as a White Stag and gives reference to the picture in the top post. But the Item picture he shows is this one.
Your guy's knowledge is unmatched.
