Titan Turbo Port

Since I got this little Titan I have been liking it. I took it apart of course to look it over and noticed an orifice into the HP diaphram chamber that goes into the LP outlet. I look in the catalog and they call it an Air Turbo System--blah--blah--yeah--whatever. Thing is that it makes sense--no it does not turbcharge anything but it may well do what they claim--increase the sensitivity and response of the first stage. Looking into my minds eye--I do believe this orifice could be drilled into a DA or RAM body to accomplish the same thing. Luis, tell me how I am wronghere

I have a couple of new Titan (actually one is a new Mistral first stage) and an old Titan first stage. The old one doesn't have the extra passage and it does make a little difference.
You can tell it on the IP recovery time during inhalation. In most instances it doesn’t matter much, but I am using one of these first stages with Poseidon Cyklon second stages. The Cyklon need an IP of around 175 psi and (since they are not balanced second stages) they work best if the IP doesn’t swing down too much. I couldn’t use the old Titan with the Cyklon’s; I had to use the new Mistral (same as Titan) first stage.
Well, there is a difference between the air flow in the Royal Aqua Master and the flow in the Conshelf and Titan. If you notice the 1st stage air flows past the IP diaphragm in the RAM before it goes down the passage to the second stage.
In the Conshelf and Titan the IP chamber has ports to the IP hoses and a passage to the IP diaphragm. That is why they had to add a couple of extra passages to link the IP diaphragm chamber to the primary IP chamber.
In essence the RAM always had that extra passage or even better the two chambers are basically the same.
All this being said, I am trying to improve the air passage a bit in this new production of Phoenix first stage bodies / nozzles. The new design was finished several month ago I just haven’t had a chance to post about it. Stay tuned at your local VDH message board for more info and drawings on the Phoenix Mod II, in the next few days. The difference is not much, but there is another minor improvement that I hope is more significant.

Will the new run of Phoenix nozzles be Mod 2's or same as the original ones?

They will be Mod II. The improvements are minimal, but I hope at least one of them is significant to some users. They will be a bit shorter. To most it is not going to make a difference, but may in some cases it will.
More details within a day or so. I will post some drawings then.

I was wondering about that since the IP chamber is more open to the LP outlet drilling that hole would be of no use I suppose now that I think more on it. Wow, on a Titan, pre tubo port, it must have been a slug because looking at mine I can see why they had to add that port. Now, on the Legend first it is not so clear, maybe I need to take it apart and look again.

In both the Titan and the Conshelf it makes a difference. I am not sure I would call the Conshelf or old Titans a slug (that could be fighting words in some circles

), but that air passage is definitely an improvement. It also depends on how sensitive the second stages are to IP fluctuation.
I have no idea where you were planning on drilling into your DA, but don’t do anything for now. After we have the new Phoenix Mod-II out we can talk some more about fine tuning further for performance. I have some more ideas, but they don’t involve any drill bits.
You can put the power tools away for now... lol

Mares has been using it for a long time in their first stages. It is known as "Dynamic Flow Control". The late Jon Hardy ran several tests on various Mares regs to determine if the gas flow actually was better through the DFC port than the other LP outlets. In several different tests, with the same first stage installed in the ANSTI Simulator, the marked port did exhibit better flow. It also demonstrated less IP drop at various RMV levels.
It is a very simple addition, and one that has no moving parts.

You got to love all this marketing names...for an air passage...
Those names just kill me...
The funny thing is that some people really fall for those names.
I say something with the name "Air Turbo", got to be worth at least 10% more.
And I can't even judge how much more is the "Dynamic Flow Control" worth.

How about calling it the "Digital A Hole" feature that allows better air flow.
